Purchased this unit to replace an old Kenmore that died. Located in basement of old house - stone foundation. About 200 ish square feet. Without dehumidification averages about 80% relative humidity measured with hygrometer. Kenmore would run continuously and keep it at about 60%. Soleus dropped humidity from 80% to 57% average in about a day and retains that level. Set to continuous on, but it does cycle off regularly when humidity level reached (I have it set at 50%.....the hygrometer is on the other side of the basement). Very quiet - can't hear it running when upstairs. Bought this unit rather than others, as I did not need a built in pump - I run this unit into a separate condensate pump. So far first 60 days is good and would buy again.

I have 2 gallon jugs of windshield washer fluid sitting on the top to stop the plastic on plastic vibrating which is loud.
I don't understand why this unit runs near non-stop and the Kenmore it replaced didn't- I even set the humidity level to over 60% to see if it would make a difference. I kept my old one at 55% or so. This unit is being used in a damp basement.
I'm not impressed.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
My rental is small, older and really damp in the winter, no ventilation except in the bathroom. Old weepy windows...so far this has helped tremendously. I roll it from room to room, and it is doing a great job so far. My place smells so much fresher and the windows dry fairly quickly. I use appliance rated extension cords in order to reach my rooms easily.
I am unsure yet on the energy efficiency factor..I run it during my low "time of use" period, and haven't received a bill yet. Easy enough to roll, no problems with emptying the bucket, but I empty it way before it's full.
Really, Really like it so far.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
We live in an old apartment that seems to hold in a lot of moisture, like to the point that we were getting mold behind our couch and didn't realize. So after a deep bleaching, I knew we had to get something. A quick search and this dehumidifier came up. Very happy with this choice. I originally was not considering the design, and more focused on function, but I was happy to realize that it is actually not ugly. In fact, its fairly sleek, not apple product sleek, but does not stand out in our living room. It works well and quickly, and is strong enough for our whole two bedroom apartment. Ran it pretty consistently in the beginning to get things dry, but now found that we only need to run it for an hour or two a day and that is sufficient. It does have 3 fan speeds, the high can be fairly loud if you are in the room, but medium is no louder than a regular fan. One thing I was very happy about is that this unit does not blow out hot air, it is warm, but not excessive. The panel is simple to use as well, the only function I wish it did have is that it showed the current humidity level without having to be running. When it is turned on, it usually starts off saying 90% for us, but quickly goes down, so I cannot say that is accurate for that. I have also found that when setting it to keep humidity at a certain level and then turn off, it goes on and off more often than I thought it would, but that may be a good feature for someone that really wants to keep it a very specific humidity without much fluctuation.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
I use this dehumdifier to keep the interior of my sailboat dry and moldfree. It works better than small heaters because it drys all the air in the boat so even the farthest corners remain dry even where air circulation is minimal. It does a great job but the case gets condensation on the outside when the interior coils freeze and the unit goes into defrost mode so I will need a drip pan. This does't seem to happen if I make the humidity setting very low so there is no moisture to condense but then I am using more energy than necessary.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
My first impression of this product is that it will be a very effective way to keep the humidity levels down in my beach condo. I have not had a chance to use it extensively and have never owned one previously, but I was pleased with the amount of water it removed from our place. It was not overly noisy and I think it will be great for our purposes. It is a rather small condo, though, and I did notice that it heated the condo quite a bit as we had to leave it on for 24 hours the first time. In future, I hope to only have to leave it on for a couple hours at a time.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
My house is 100+ years old with a stone foundation and sits on a hill. In short - the basement is always damp, and sometimes even has water flowing across from the up-hill side to the dry-well on the downhill side.
I've had this house for 28 years. After the first few years, I realized I needed a dehumidifier down there. I got one (major brand name omitted per review requirement), and it worked "okay", but it didn't do all that good a job, and it cost a lot in terms of electricity.
Years later, I subsequently bought TWO of another major brand (name omitted per review requirement) because they were on sale. Same basic story; they worked okay, but didn't seem to be very effective.
In 2012, all three of those died. So did my box fans. Not a good year for me in terms of electrical appliances. So I looked in a popular magazine that rates items, and it led me to the Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier. I tried finding it through many local stores, but no one carried it. So I searched for on-line options, and found it offered by Sylvane. While leary about ordering a heavy electrical appliance on-line, I bit the bullet and ordered it.
I've been nothing but happy. The ordering process was excellent, the delivery was prompt. The dehumidifier arrived well-packaged and free from damage. And it has worked beautifully. I was nothing less than *amazed* at how quickly and efficiently it worked. I could feel the difference later that first day... which coincided with the percentage-humidity reading it displayed. After two or three days, the basement felt what I would call properly dry.
The dehumidifier has performed excellently all summer and fall, keeping the humidity low, and without as big a rise in the electric costs.
The only negatives, which are minor by comparison are:
1) It was difficult to figure out how to attach a hose for external draining... though once I figured it out, it was easy enough.
2) With the external hose attached, it's apparently very touchy in terms of being on a level floor. It doesn't seem like it would've taken a lot of engineering to improve how forgiving it is. When at an improper angle, the water flows into the bucket rather than the hose, which means it fills up and shuts off.
3) The collection bucket doesn't have any "pouring spout". You have to pour it out of a corner, which has plastic molding patterns in it, so it has a tendency to pour other than where you're trying to pour it.
4) The light that says I need to change the filter comes on frequently, even though the filter looks fine, and doesn't seem any cleaner after cleaning. This doesn't seem to have negatively impacted it's performance in any way though, so it's not a big deal.
Aside from those three things, I'm very happy with this dehumidifier, and would buy another one if the need arises.

Comments about Soleus Air SG-DEH-70-2 Dehumidifier:
We use this in our basement that is built of rock walls. We have an excellent drainage system, but of course moisture would stay in the air. The Sylvane dehumidifier takes care of that! It runs all the time, drains itself, and the air is no longer humid. My husband can now leave his wood projects in the basement and we can store other things that must have dry conditions down there as well.

I keep it in the basement. It works really fast. Water pan full in a couple of days. Water pan does not seem to be large enough, but may connect hose to drain somewhere else. Overall, great product.

Primary use is basement of a 100+ year old home. Used all summer in high humidity. Relatively quiet & works amazingly well. People actually comment that my basement doesn't smell musty anymore!
We made 50 Mexican sugar skulls the day of hurricane Sandy & #1 instruction was "do not make on rainy or humid days". Well, I placed them in the basement with dehumidifier & they set perfectly!
I'm ridiculously happy with this dehumidifier!
