Comments about Sunpentown 46-Pint Dehumidifier (SD-46T) with UV Light:
I put this dehumid. in a crawlspace of my cabin. The space is 24'X30', from 26" tall down to 5",so it was well within the capabilities of this unit. I have it hooked to a Hartell condensate pump to pump the condensate up to the drain( only 1' of lift needed.)I was not going to pay 1500-2500.00 for a commercial type unit, and I had limited space anyway. I needed cold temp. operation, and also auto power up on power failure. This unit is only 21" tall, so it fit in the space, even with top discharge. It has run for two weeks, and has made a huge improvement in the humidity level in the space. It is adjustable from 50% on up, in increments of ten.It has a continuous run mode as well.
In the specs on Sylvane's website it says that the fan shuts off when dehumidification is not on.This is not true of my unit, the fan runs constantly, even when the compressor is cycled off. That is the only thing that I do not like about this unit, everything else is exactly what I need. At 4 amps, it is much cheaper than running a heater down there, and safer. My crawlspace is very well insulated, so the dehumid. keeps the space warm and dry. I will see how it does this winter, I'm hoping it stays above 41 degrees in the space so it does not frost the coil. I don't think this will be a problem, as the dehumid. warms the air as it removes moisture.
