Built with higher quality components than the 1220 series, the 1230 series can be expected to last longer and run more efficiently. These units output 12000 BTU of cooling power which is sufficient to cool rooms up to 400 square feet depending on individual conditions. Self-Evaporating Technology - during the cooling process, water is extracted from the air into the unit. Most of this water is then recycled and used to cool the cooling coils and make it run more efficiently, improving cooling as well as saving energy. This process either eliminates or reduces the need to manually empty water from the collection tray (depending on the level of humidity in your environment).
Note: Exhaust hose installation required (all standard accessories included).

I ordered the Sunpentown WA-1230E Portable Air Conditioner on 7-6-08 (Sunday) and it arrived 7-9-08 (Wednesday). It was well packaged and arrived in good condition. I placed this order after exhaustive Internet research on air conditioners. I found the Sylvane site to be the most helpful site, in terms of education about air conditioners in general and descriptions of the individual products. Based on how the Sylvane information compares to what is on other commercial sites, I believe the text is written by technical people, not sales people. I looked at products and reviews and information on QVC, Galttech, MasterCool, and many other commercial sites; Consumer Reports, US Dept of Energy, MSN Money, California Energy Commission, and others. I had friends who had ordered air conditioners that did not work, and I had the time to try to ensure that my first order was the right order.
I recently started working from home 3-4 days a week, and my 1940 Bay Area home (like most in the area) has no air conditioning. I elected to purchase a portable conditioner so that I could use it when I needed it, and roll it out of the way when I don't. Also, because my office is on the ground floor, I wanted to be able to un-install it when I leave the house and at night, for safety purposes. I especially appreciated the technical information, drawings and operation manual that are provided on the Internet by Sylvane, and took full advantage of them before I ordered. It was all very helpful.
Yesterday and today (8-28-08) was the first real heat wave we’ve had since I installed the unit. It was 85 degrees outside, and my home office takes the full brunt of the afternoon sun. Under similar conditions, the room has reached way over 90 degrees. Today the unit kept my 11' x 12' office under 74 degrees until the sun went down (with two computers, a printer, and a 150w incandescent light on). I am very pleased with the cooling capacity and the low noise level.
I put the unit on a small wooden box so that the cooling air could clear the bed. This also resulted in the exhaust hose having a short straight path out the window.
