The best way to combat the problem of humidity migrating through the roof, walls and floor is to pressurize the building with dehumidified air. This strategy involves bringing a measured amount of outdoor air into the structure and dehumidifying it before it enters the living areas. An equal amount of drier indoor air will escape from the structure to equalize the pressure. This ventilation strategy, provided by the Ultra-Aire APD system, prevents humid outdoor air from infiltrating the structure and offers the ventilation recommended by health experts. The Ultra-Aire APD has been incorporated into numerous American Lung Association Health Houses. The Ultra-Aire APD 100V ensures air filtration, fresh air ventilation and humidity control. It provides a measured amount of fresh air into the home, which is mixed with indoor air. The air is then filtered to remove airborne particles and dehumidified to ensure the relative humidity in the home remains below 50%. Fresh Air Ventilation: Outdoor air is ducted to the unit via 6" round duct. This provides necessary air changes to dilute pollutants and maintain high oxygen content in the air. The amount of fresh air ventilation can be regulated by a variety of controls. Air Filtration: A measured amount of outdoor air is combined with indoor air and passes through the filter chamber. A 30% efficient (ASHRAE Dust spot test) media filter is standard. An optional 95% efficient (ASHRAE Dust spot test) pleated media filter is available. If the optional filter is selected, the standard filter operates as a pre-filter. Dehumidification: High efficiency dehumidifier that utilizes refrigeration to cool the incoming air stream below its dew point as it passes through the dehumidification (evaporator) coil. This cooling results in the the removal of moisture (latent heat) and reduction in temperature (sensible heat). The cooled and dried air is used to pre-cool the incoming air stream resulting in up to a 200 percent increase in overall efficiency. After the pre-cooling stage the processed air is reheated by passing through the condenser coil. The latent heat removed by the evaporator coil is returned to the air stream as sensible heat, which results in an overall temperature increase from the incoming air. Features: The unit is controlled by a 24 volt remote control panel. The standard control contains a fan/filter switch that allows continuous air circulation independent of dehumidification. The panel also contains a dehumidistat with settings from 20 to 80 percent and positive "on" and "off" settings. The optional Ultra-Aire control also contains a timer that activates a motorized damper to provide programmed fresh air ventilation periods.
