Great Buying Experience. I purchased via the phone and the person on the other end was curtious and helpful. Thank you. I placed my order Tuesday early afternoon and was told delivery may come on Friday. It arrived Wednesday the next day, UNBELIEVEABLE!. Turned it on Wednesday night and first thing Saturday morning the humidity level is now normal. So far so good.

I have a newly remodeled basement that tends to be very damp and cool. My old dehumidifier would freeze up and then do nothing but run,run,run and I would get no dehumidification at all. So I started looking for a dehumidifier that would do the job and not freeze up at the lower temperatures of my basement. So I did a Google search and decided to look at Sylvane for a dehumidifier. I liked the information about the Confort-Aire dehumidifier, especially the 65 pint model. I had not had any dealings with Sylvane before but I called and talked to a customer service rep. about this model and found the person to be very knowlegable and very courteous and after a few minutes I decided to order this unit.

This model weighs almost 50 lbs but they offer FREE SHIPPING. What a great bonus. My unit arrived in only 2 days. I unpacked and hooked up, started the unit running, set to 45% humidity, (basement was showing 65% humidity-too much). Within about 24 hours I emptied a bucket full of water (huge bucket on this model). After 2 days the unit has brought down the humidity level to 45% and will cycle on and off as needed to keep humidity level constant. I really do love this dehumidifier because it gets the job done. I also have several guitars and a banjo that I keep down in this room and humidity level is an important factor to keeping these instruments safe.

So if you are looking for a great dehumidifier, this one is it and Sylvane is a great company to deal with. They do have smaller models for smaller rooms but I feel sure they are all great units.Thanks Sylvane.

I am extremely pleased with this purchase. My purchase was driven by recognition that my old unit had sounded like it was functioning all summer, but wasn’t, and my wife was now complaining about the smell of mold in the basement. A few days after starting up this unit, our roughly 1200 sq ft basement feels dry, doesn’t smell like mold, and I have a happy wife! Her comment was, “That was a VERY good purchase.”

Sylvane shipped the unit quickly and installation was a snap. At first I allowed it to collect water within the unit. I ran it on high and it filled to capacity in about a day. Emptying the bucket was simple, and the unit restarted automatically. Then I installed a hose so that it would drain to a condensate pump. The instructions for this connection are not as clear as they could be, but it was really quite easy. (Just make sure the included plastic hose connector is squarely attached to the drain pipe by removing the collection bin and inspecting.) I like the separate digital displays that show the current humidity level and the level at which you have the unit set. The dehumidifier cycles on and off as you would expect.

I researched this purchase online after being thoroughly unsatisfied by the units that I saw at Home Depot, Loews and Sears. The online reviews of the Sears units were horrible! I’ll admit that I was resistant to buying a 50 pound item online as opposed to locally, but Sylvane earned my confidence and the price seemed right. I am very glad that I decided to go this route and would purchase from Sylvane again.

I would like to thank Sylvane for the recent purchase of a Comfort-Aire Low Temp.65 pint dehumidifier. Navigation of your web site was very easy. I tried to make a dehumidfier purchase at a few MAJOR Dept stores, and the sales help was unable to tell me the amount of space (area) in which their dehumidfier would cover. So this made me very uneasy to purchase this locally.

I placed my order on line Sunday evening, by start of business the next morning I have received a e-mail confirmation that the order was fulfiled. Later that afternoon I received an UPS tracking #. Excellent! I received my shipment Wednesday of the same week, pachaged very well to insure no damage would take place during shipment. The unit is inuse and working very well. Thanks from a satisfied Customer.

I purchased this product on line on 07/01/08. The order shipped within the specified time and arrived without incident. Since this was my first experience with a dehumidifier I was unsure of what to expect. I unpackaged the unit and plugged it in. I read the instructions, which to my amusement were very easy to read. They were not written for engineers, but for the common consumer.

I purchased the dehumidifier for my newly finished basement. The basement is approximately 120 square feet. I can't believe how much water this model Comfort-Aire BHD-651 pulls out of the air. I have yet to use all the features, but I do like the option for the two speed fan setting and the option to have the unit run for 2 hours and off for two hours. There is also the same feature for four hours on and four off. The fan is relatively quiet in the low setting, but I do understand there is a compressor that must run, so I do not expect the unit to be too silent. The casters on the unit are nice but I have shag carpet which makes it difficult to roll around. The slide out basket that contains the water is easy to pull out and manually dump. There is an option to connect to a pump but I am not using that option.

Overall I am very happy with the product and the order processing. I would recommend this product for anyone with a similar size room.

We live in a very damp part of the country. I purchase the Comfort-Aire BHD-651 for our downstairs. It has been the best thing I have ever purchased. We run the hose to the bathroom and it drains out there, no need to empty the bucket. I didn't get it in right one time and when the machine filled up it shut off. We like it so much I purchased a second one, a little smaller and put it in our motor home. Great product.

After recently reading good reviews about the Comfort Aire BHD 651 in leading consumer testing and rating magazine, I purchased an ... version of this dehumidifier from Sylvane and have been very pleased so far. Initially, I was a bit skeptical about purchasing an open box unit via the internet because I had no way of inspecting its condition prior to purchase ... I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had absolutely no indication of damage, neglect, or use of any kind. It arrived at my door very quickly and without any damage whatsoever.

After making the purchase, Sylvane provided sufficient email notifications of the order status as well as the necessary tracking numbers needed to for the shipping company. I was also surprised to see that they offer additional ways to save on the purchase after arrival of the item.

The Comfort Aire BHD 651 is very quiet compared to our 15 year old dehumidifier which was being replaced due to malfunction. It is currently being used to dehumidify an unfinished, somewhat damp, basement of about 1300 square feet. Water removal is very efficient, much better than my old 40 quart unit. The controls are very easy to use, digital numbers easy to read, and the integral humidistat appears to be accurate.

I am very pleased with the item purchased as well as with Sylvane.

Freeze up problem

good and reliable product, but like the last person (John) who reviewed this product, my dehumidifier (same model as his) freezes up periodically in my basement. I have it set for 50 degrees, but have raised it to 55 so that it won't work as long, I also put it on the low fan. However, like the previous reviewer said, I can't understand why it would freeze up, as my basement doesn't get nearly below the designated temperature for freeze-ups. Anyone got any answers to this? I can't find an answer on-line, except the one that says that ac units without enough freon will freeze up

[EDITOR NOTE: Dehumidifiers will freeze up if they are put into an environment lower than their stated minimum operating temperature or if their capacity/size is too small for the environment they are being used in. In this case, it appears that this customer's environment may require a larger / or multiple units.]

The coil has frozen up

I have the model BHD-651-D and I use it in my finished basement. I have had it for almost a year, and it has work fine. However, recently it has been making some funny noises. I took the front unit off and found that most of the coil had frozen up, so I let it thaw out. I restarted the unit and it is working fine so far. I am not sure why the front coil froze up. The unit specs say that this model operates efficiently down to 42 degrees and I am sure our basement temperature does not approach or get below 42. Moreover, the coils and air filter are clean. I wonder whether this is a typical problem, whether others have been experienced it, and what is the best way to handle it. As of now, I feel I have to check it periodically for freeze up, but I am not sure why this has to be done. If the unit is working efficiently, it shouldn't freeze up like this.
