We live in a fairly humid area and were absolutely miserable for most of the summer...a true vicious circle with our A/C. We would keep lowering the thermostat to try and get comfortable, but then our floor would be moist, bedsheets damp, soap would melt--basically, everything was clammy...and we had some mold blooms as well. Lowering the temperature even further just made things worse, as that lowered the dew-point and even more moisture came out of the air and onto us. In fact, there were days we'd turn on the heat to "dry out" the house...and it was over 90 outside! A little research into the problem led me to this Whole House Dehumidifier. I was skeptical--but desperate. It took me a weekend to install the dehumidifier...best investment I've ever made.
Within a day the inside of the home was bearable and within two days the house was completely comfortable and has been ever since. Installation was pretty straightforward once I figured out precisely where I would place the dehumidifier and how I would route the ducting. Critical tool to have: Left-handed AND right-handed aviation snips for cutting holes in ventilation ducting. Power and thermostat wiring were straightforward. My only note of caution is to spend some time thinking through location and positioning...while the unit itself is of modest size (think oversize window A/C); you'll need to also accommodate the 8" supply and return ducting, a drain line, and have access to the unit for wiring and periodically checking/cleaning filter--all told, the fully installed system does eat up a lot of space. Bottom line--I love this dehumidifier as it has made my house so much more comfortable and no more mold. Fantastic investment and well worth the price (even if you have to pay someone else to install it)!
