Replaced a Comfort-Aire dehumidifier that passed on to the great beyond with this one. Very quiet operation and I like the ability to set time frames for the unit to work. I do not use the continuous drain, but it's a nice option. The remote control is a great feature because even though the unit runs very quiet (for a dehumidifier), there are times you'd like to be able to just turn it off.

Only a couple of drawbacks as I see: a) Capacity of bucket is small. You have to empty frequently during periods of high humidity. b) Seems to work past the low humidity setting I have. Might be my problem as did not read directions thoroughly, but the unit continues to work after the humidity setting is reached.

All in all, I would purchase again. Terrific product.

Dehumidifier works well
Reviewed by: Tom on 2009-11-25
I am using the Danby DDR5009REE to dehumidify a damp 1,100 sf basement. This unit works very well and the basement and house are much more comfortable since replacing the old unit. The unit maintained 50% humidity level during the warm months and the space doesn't smell musty and damp as it used to. The fan does run constantly which is fine in my basement but in a living space it would be noisy. I am very satisfied with my purchase. The shipment from Sylvane arrived ahead of schedule and was in perfect condition when it arrived. I would order from Sylvane again.

So good my neighbor bought mine
Reviewed by: D on 2009-09-14

I had the unit 3 days when my neighbors basement backed up. He was using an old dehumidifier and it wasn't getting the job done. I offered this new unit to them to help out. In 2 days his basement was down to 40% humidity after starting at 65%. He said the carpet is dry and that the basement is warm. He asked how much I paid for it and after I told him he promptly handed me $250 for it! And yes, I have already orderd a new one - again.

Works Great

I'm very happy with the dehumidifier. It works quickly and is effective in removing the moisture from my basement. The fan always runs (seems to defeat the "Energy Star" idea) when the dehumidifier is on, even if the actual humidity is below the setting. I haven't really studied the manual though, so it's possible there's a way to turn it off that I haven't yet discovered.

everything went great so far

I can't tell you how honest the company is and helpful. I was going to buy a dehumidifier that was on clearence , they quickly reported back to me until I saw a pictue with a cosmetic crack they weren't going forward with order, they had failed to mention that in the item. It was fine with me with the crack , it wasn't anything that would have hurt but by the next day I had decided on a 50pt. instead of a 45pt. Very quick feedback.

Arrived fine. The dehumidifier , isn't totally as quiet as thought it would be but it is a softer hum than my past. The truth is after reading all companies reviews there is a amount of noise. I keep it in bedroom below our living room and can't even here it and the floor isn't insulated. There is heat from the unit but all have this. My husband was already noticing the doors shutting better in one day of use. I have had this only a week but am well pleased all away around. If it goes sour I will comment again. One appliance shop who no longer sold any dehumidifiers said it was a good one.

Works pretty well.

After being fed up with dehumidifiers that just died on us after a few months, we checked out Consumer Reports for their recommendations. One of the picks was a Danby, so we thought we would try it. We were hoping that with the price being about double that of one we could just pick up in a store that it would work really well. We received with it no problems and installed it immediately. It took a few days to get our basement down to 45% humidity (it was really bad down there)—it filled the tank two or three times before it got there. At the low fan speed it is pretty quiet, and it seems to be working mostly just fine.

My only complaint is that we attached the hose so that it would drain by itself, but it continues to partially drain into the bucket. We searched the Internet for what could be wrong, and the advice we found was to raise the machine higher. We put it on blocks up about 8” off the floor and it is still slowly draining into the bucket, so we have to empty that about every week or two. It would probably be fine if we raised it a little more, but we didn't have any more blocks and have not gotten around to picking some up yet. It kind of annoys me that this issue was not addressed in the instruction manual. I don't care if it has to be raised off the floor, but then they should just say that so I don't waste time trying to figure out how to get it to work properly.

Anyway, that seems to be the only issue and I am still happy with the purchase as it has done an excellent job of getting rid of the extreme dank-ness in our basement. Being able to set the controls and humidity percentage you want digitally, having two fan speeds, and low-temperature operation are all great, especially since our basement is unheated and gets mighty cold in the Minnesota winter. We have seen far fewer bugs in the house this year, too—another bonus.
