Wonderful Product

This Danby dehumidifier has done a great job for us in our basement. We utilized the drain hose so we do not need to worry about emptying it. We ran the unit continuously for the first week and since then, have used the hour setting when we need it. There is one option that would make this unit even better and that is the ability to set it to cycle on and off at intervals, i.e. on for four hours, off for four hours, then back on. My wife adds a hearty amen to that. Otherwise we are pleased with the unit

I was having moisture issues in my finished basement. After doing research on the many options to handle this problem, I decided on Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier. It was highly recommended by Consumer Reports, which I totally trust in making any purchases.
The product was shipped in a timely fashion but the box was not completely sealed. When the product was taken out of the box, I noticed a slight imperfection to the back of the unit. I contacted Sylvane who arranged for pick-up of the damaged unit as well as re-shipment of the replacement, all done within a timely fashion.
After receiving the replacement, I ran the unit continuously for 3 days in order to get the moisture level down to 50%. I now can run the unit as needed with results that I am well pleased with. If you are looking for a superior product to solve moisture problems in your home, I highly recommend this product!

This is a fine product for keeping my cellars' humiidity low. I live in a 900 sq ft home and have a damp basement. The Danby dehumidifier has worked well to keep the basement much more comfortable and dryer without constantly running! This has made a big difference in the quality of air down there, being dryer it is much healthier also!
I use the timeset button most of the time and let it run for a couple hours during the day. Sometimes I let it shut itself off. I like the temperature feature too. The cost of the unit was in line with the quality of the product and I am quite pleased with my Danby dehumidifier.

Easy to operate. It tells you the relative humidity of the room on a moment to moment basis. We like it very much.

State of the art unit

I just received this unit yesterday. (Thanks for the overnight shipping Sylvane!) It removed well over 1 gallon of water in less than a 24 hour period. It runs well and is not loud. It also displays temperature and humidity as it runs. I'm very happy with it!

Danby Dehumidifier

I ordered this unit because I was unable to find it locally. Free shipping and a good price anyway. I believe it is more energy efficient that other models in its class. None of the ones I have used were quiet - this one is no different. It was used to dehumidify an unoccupied house, and it performed well. I used it mainly with the drain hose attached, running into a floor drain. This worked well.
The only real complaint I have is that the bucket design (for portable operation) is smaller than others I have used, so it will require frequent draining.

This Danby DDR7009REE Dehumidifier arrived promptly and got busy drying out our basement. It works efficiently, perhaps a bit nosier than I would like. The one thing I do not like is the timer that I thought would turn off and on the machine. It turns it off, but won't turn it back on automatically - or will turn it back on, but not off again. I have to help it out. That is annoying. Nothing in the direction book is any help to me, or three other members of my family (2 mechanics included) can find any direction to take care of the problem.

Mixed Review
Reviewed by: tdk on 2010-01-03
Negative: The dehumidifier came poorly assembled and instead of returning it, we took it apart and put it back together properly. The "switch" that the water reservoir sits against to indicate the reservoir is full was not properly aligned, once put back together properly, things started to improve.
Positive: This dehumidifier has made a HUGE difference in our finished basement - with several rooms. The quality of the air has improved, the moisture is gone, the heat is now running much less and even the upstairs (bi-level) is even warmer. The dehumidifier was running constantly at first, but after about a month, it gradually decreased to almost not running at all - this is a basement that is mostly underground.
Another negative: The water sometimes runs over the reservoir, I believe this is due to it being poorly assembled by the manufacturer. However, this is in our laundry room and isn't a huge deal and since someone is always passing by there, it is emptied frequently.

This machine is just as noisy as my 25 year old dehumidifier, and it does not turn off automatically when humidity level is dry enough, which is a feature included in the old one. Two huge defects.
