Works great in my basement.
Reviewed by: Gina on 2009-11-29
I needed a dehumidifier for my basement which is old and made of rock with a concrete floor. The basement was very musty and damp and I was afraid of mildew so I bought the Dehumidifier. I keep it on 50 percent humidity and it turns off and on when needed. I don't need to check it and it drains into a pvc pipe without any problems. I have had good success with it so far and it has made a major difference to the musty smell and dampness.

Dry at Last with Delonghi
Reviewed by: Jesse on 2008-08-20
When we bought our home the seller had strongly suggested to us we get our own dehumidifier. With the excitement of moving in it was something we neglected to do. Therefore, we were dismayed when we found mildew in our basement. The basement walls were damp and there were black streaks of mildew on the walls. We asked around and several friends including our plumber recommended DeLonghi. I thought they only made coffee makers but we learned quickly they do more.

The DeLonghi dehumidifier worked quickly in drying the basement. In three days, the walls were dry. It runs efficiently and was very easy to install. We got rid of the mildew and it has not returned. The dehumidifier reads the humid level and turns on automatically when it needs to which is important to us as we are only in our home for the weekends. It is a bit noisy when it runs but it is in the basement so not an issue.

It is an energy saver which was an added plus for us. We recommend the DeLonghi dehumidifier and give it a four star rating.

Hate The Noise
Reviewed by: Linda on 2009-11-21
We have this unit in our basement and it seems to be drying it up nicely, but I WOULD NOT CALL IT QUIET! I do have a low tolerance for noise, as we live in the woods and I prefer to hear the birds and breeze in the trees, not the roar of motors. We have this unit in our basement, but I can hear it upstairs on the main floor of the house. Can't a dehumidifier be made that's quiet without spending an arm and a leg?

Dehumidifier Review
Reviewed by: Linda on 2010-02-08
After only 2 months of use, it has started leaking and all the water is going onto the floor. Had to cut it off. Haven't found the problem yet. Seems to dehumidify ok - so noisy that I can hear it upstairs with the basement door closed. Really loud in the basement.

Not reliable
Reviewed by: Rarified on 2009-07-25
I bought this unit on two different occasions, separated by some years, and I regretted it both times. This is a poorly-made product that does not last. It's nice looking and has desirable features ON PAPER, but you will regret buying it.

Here are more details:

I bought one of these online a couple years ago, it filled the room with a skunk odor that never stopped. After a month, I returned it after getting nothing but evasive language from the DeLonghi people on the East Coast. I thought maybe there was a single incident that fouled one batch and maybe a different batch would be OK...

Then I bought the second one a couple years later from Costco. This time no skunk odor, just a mild plastic smell that stopped after a few weeks. The unit was great *while it worked*. It ran relatively quietly, kept the air dry and the pump feature was very desirable.

Now the bad news. The pump has a little filter that for some reason became clogged, pump then barely worked and made tremendous chattering noises. I eventually had to disassemble the unit enough to access the filter, a huge job. That cleared up the pump problem but then it started rattling and shaking terribly, worse every day. Finally it made a loud bang noise and I turned it off. The compressor had torn off its rubber mounts and did something to the wiring where it wouldn't turn on anymore.

There aren't many reviews for this unit here, but if look at the Costco site, you will see a great many unhappy reviews, myself being one of them.
