Probably the Last Dehumidifier You Will Have to Buy
Reviewed by: Mark on 2010-02-06
I have a 40 year old ranch house with a 1,200 square foot basement. I really don't have any water leakage problems, but here in northeast Ohio, there always seems to be humidity to deal with. I've routinely gone through a department store dehumidifier about every two years and told myself it was finally time for a "real" dehumidifier.

The Advance is really built like a tank, it is super quiet and well-engineered. I've been running it for the past few months and it easily keeps my basement a 45-50% humidity. It runs every now and then compared to the department store dehumidifiers that never shut off. I have not noticed any real increase in my electric bill, probably due to the fact that the machine never really runs for a long time. You will not be disappointed in this unit. My basement no longer smells musty and my allergies have improved considerably. I highly recommend this machine.

Purcashed this product based on previous reviews.1800 square foot crawlspace with some ceiling heights of 15ft. Using it as a compliment to a basement system encapsulation system, vapor barrier on dirt floors and closed cell insualtion on the crawlspace walls.Exchange air between crawlspace and basement central air. Works very well, is quiet and kept humidy levels constant and low for both floors. Saw immediate effects on reducing musty smell. Worked extremely well in the worst part of summer in GA humidty.

Impressive Unit
Reviewed by: Thomas on 2009-03-10

I am using this unit to replace a LG dehumidifier that was slowly dieing after less than 2 years service. Over the last 10 years I have been through 3 off the shelf units from the local big box store. They all were noisy, prone to icing and inefficient.

This unit was shipped quickly by a local freight service and carried right into my home. Upon arrival the first thing a I noticed was wow it's heavy duty. Removing the cowling revealed massive coils much like those in a central AC unit and a monster fan (squirrel cage style) similar to the blower in a forced air furnace. No comparison to the chintzy blade fan and single coil of my old unit.

This is being used in a 1200 Sq foot basement. We live right on the shore of lake Michigan in a 130 year old house with a cream city brick basement. The basement has no drain tile system or sump pump so it is damp and mildewy without de-humidification. The old cheap units would run 24/7 to keep up. This unit has been running much less and should result in some savings on the energy bill. It runs much quieter as well. My old unit had a tendency to ice up once in a while but the Santa Fe has a defrost mode to deal with this situation.

I know the $129 cheapo units are tempting, but if I had bought this 10 years ago I'd be money ahead. I have plans to buy another for a crawl space under our summer home.

Santa Fe Advance Dehumidifier
Reviewed by: Randall on 2008-09-17
Installed Santa Fe Advance dehumidifier about 10 days ago and it seems to be working really well. I live in southeastern NC and our Summers in particular are very humid. The crawlspace under my home this time of year is fairly damp, and there is a light dusting of what appears to be microbiological growth on some of my floor joists.

My crawlspace is approximately 1600 sq. ft. I still need to put down a vapor barrier, but already after a little over a week I can tell a big difference in the humidity level of my crawlspace. The day I installed the unit, the dirt in the crawlspace was fairly damp and even more indicative of the humidity was the fact that most of the insulated air conditioning duct had a good deal of condensation on it.

The relatively low height of the Santa Fe Advance fits in nicely in my crawlspace. I was able to maneuver it myself to the middle of the crawlspace without assistance of another person, but at over 70 pounds +/- it could be easily maneuvered with two folks I would think. My only complaint is I bought the optional casters that were supposed to fit to the Advance unit to allow me to push it into place, but the caster screws were too large for the threaded holes (though the leveling feet did fit into the holes and leveling the unit was a breeze. (Note that Sylvance has indicated they will refund my purchase of the casters) The hose that came with the unit was only 8 feet, so I had to buy a tube to extend it, but that is not too difficult. Thankfully, thus far, my layout allows me to gravity drain the unit, so I have not had to get the condensate pump. Initial verdict, I need to add the vapor barrier to better keep moisture from entering the crawlspace, but thus far it is doing a very nice job of removing the humidity. Also, after the initial week or so, we had a tropical storm come through (Hanna), so the typical weather was even more wet and humid than normal, and the Santa Fe seems to be doing well. I also plan to install the duct package and run a supply and return duct to opposite ends of my crawlspace to improve air circulation. I have not received any power bills yet, so I can not attest to the power costs of running it, but thus far it seems to run most of the time. Also, in my opinion, I do not think it is overly loud (can not hear it in the house above).

buying of santa fe advance dehumidifier

We found the sylvane website, after having a bad experience at another site. We ordered the santa fe advance dehumidifier from sylvane, after consulting one of sylvane's experts. He helped us to pick the correct model for our basement.

We have a very wet basement, which was causing not only moldy smells in our basement, but moisture related problems in our living space. It has only been a few days since we received our dehumidifier, but already we see and smell the difference it has made. The basement is not only drier, but the moldy, stagnant smell has been greatly reduced, and the heavy, humid atmosphere,is no longer there.Prior to this purchase,we had a small dehumidifier, which was not large enough to handle our problem, but the advance seems to be more than equal to the challange.

We also have been very impressed with the speedy and professional manner in which sylvane dealt with our order. When you have to make a purchase, such as this, you need some guidance, and sylvane covers this area very nicely, with the afore mentioned sales experts. All in all we will keep sylvane in mind for any future purchase needs.

Great Crawlspace Dehumidifier!

Hello we live in North Carolina and it is pretty humid here. We received the Santa Fe Advance Crawlspace Dehumidifier about 12 months ago and we love it! We had mold in our 1,200 sq. ft. crawlspace in the past and we had to have a company come by and clean it up - NOT CHEAP! We looked around for a while and finally came across this unit to solve our humidity problem and it has worked GREAT! We now have no problems whatsoever, - easy to install and it has been doing it's job since day one! I highly recommend this product to anyone!
