Designed for whole room humidification, the Vornado Whole Room Ultrasonic Humidifier employs revolutionary Vortex Technology to circulate moist air evenly throughout a 900-square-foot space. During operation, the humidifier pulls large volumes of harsh dry air inside, moistens the air using ultrasonic technology, and pushes the moistened air back out into the room. As an added benefit over other ultrasonic humidifiers, this Vornado unit helps even out a room’s temperature by recovering and re-circulating lost heat from the ceiling.
The Vornado HU1-0022-06R Ultrasonic Humidifier features a variety of easy-to-use controls that help you customize operation. An electronic humidistat with LCD digital display enables you to set and adjust precise humidity settings. There is also an option to automate the humidifier’s operation. A built-in indicator alerts you when the unit’s mineral cartridge needs to be replaced. In addition, 2 humidification speeds help you achieve the right amount of humidity in the room. I have tried various humidifiers over the past several years and have always been disappointed. After reading several upbeat reveiws about the Vornado I decided to give it a try. One of the features I was most hoping for was the ability to set/maintain a constant humidity level. The Vornado claimed the ability to adjust humidity between 40%-60% range.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. When I first turned on the unit it reported a room humidity of 65%, 5% above the range that can be set. There are 2 accurate hygrometers in the room that read 41%. I contacted Vornado and was told that the unit's humidity readings can/may/might be off by as much as 50%. This factor of error makes the "set desired humidity" function nearly useless.
I will note, that other than the set humidity function, the unit does perform very well. I can manually maintain my desired level of humidity during the day with no problems. The nights are a different story as I must set the unit to low and hope for the best.
Overall, the Vornado is a good unit. But if you are hoping for the option to set a desired humidity level and have the unit cycle on/off to maintain that level, you will be disappointed.

I'm on my third unit. The first two worked great - best humidifiers I ever had. Until they stopped working, both well within the 30-day warranty period. The first machine suddenly started making a loud, grinding noise. The second flooded my hardwood floors with water, causing permanent damage.
Sylvane has cheerfully and efficiently kept the replacement units coming. However, machine #3 is out of warranty and was only used two days before humidifier season ended. Fingers crossed I'll have a humidifier next season, but if history is any indication, there's little room for optimism in this department. I've probably spent over $200 for less than a week of running this model humidifier -- and now the window for replacement units and refunds is over.
Sigh.

quiet with solid controls and reasonable water storage that is easy to fill. Expect 4 solid months of performance w no white mist. Two internal values can falter leaving the entire tank of water on your floor. One value of the tank and one on the intake. Tried everything and now am shopping for a different unit.

I purchased this unit for my mother to moisten the air in her 3rd floor apartment. Everything worked great for the first 2 weeks until my mother called and said all her furniture was turning white. I purchased a new cartridge for $27.50 and 2 weeks later the same thing happened. I've been told to use distilled water but this is too expensive and a big hassle to carry gallons of water into her apartment. Needless to say I'm out of luck. The unit is out of warranty and is no longer in use.

Dealing with CO's dry climate I am so happy I found this humidifier. Between the reviews and the fact that Vornado has been around for so long I gave it a shot. It works great!! It's quiet and the output is really good. I followed a tip one of the previous reviewers gave and used distilled h2o and magically no white dust. I had a Air O Swiss that died 3 months in, after 2 months of dealing with their "customer service" the replacement didn't even last that long. This one works so much better.

I run a digital prepress department with 3 Epson 7900 proofers running all day. The Vornado has helped tremendously this winter in maintaining a consistent humidity level as well as keeping static down to a minimum.

Product works very well. Increased humidity in house noticeably - I felt the difference breathing and on skin. No more cracked knuckles! Overall very quiet but a bit loud on high fan but not too bad. Still gives out lots of vapor on low. Attractive looking, great size,not too big like the larger humidifiers that looked like pieces of furniture I considered.
Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because you are supposed to clean it weekly, which takes time and work. I cannot fit my arm in the container all the way down to clean it properly. Did have a smell after a month, so I cleaned it and it is fine now. May have been because I had turned it off for more than 12 hrs. which it says not to do. Best to just leave it running 24/7. Overall it is not loud, and works super! My wife even likes it!
Sylvane is great also. 2nd product from them and no complaints all around. Very satisfied.
