The Whirlpool Whispure 250 features an outside grill that serves as a type of pre-filter, preventing large particles from entering the air purifier. Directly inside the Whirlpool 250 air purifier is a carbon filter. This carbon filter traps any remaining large particles, removes household odors from the air, and helps preserve the life of the HEPA filter. We have a large (300 sq ft) bedroom and needed a strong but quiet air purifier for dust and allergens (smoke and odors not an issue). My husband has bad allergies and asthma, and our last purifier was a cheaper tower model which rattled when on high settings -- and I was noticing dust bunnies forming in the room even when the purifier was operating.
I picked the Whirlpool because is it simple and straightforward -- no ion blasting whozamawhatzits or bulbs to change. Just three knob-controlled speeds of quiet HEPA filtration. It works great. No dust bunnies...and no asthma attacks. It also provides a perfect amount of white noise on level 2 for sleeping, and I am sensitive to rattles or buzzes, or even fan speed changes in air conditioners. So far, so good. We have been using continuously for over a month, no indication of filter change needed as yet.

Being made in China created a major Canadian duty and tax bill when it crossed the border. Sylvane should consider a Canadian outlet. The Whirlpool AP51030K was Consumer's Reports favorite Air Purifier. The smaller models such as the AP25030K are equally effective but for smaller spaces.

We purchased this smaller version for our bedroom. It's quiet, Not too small. We wake up without the usual nasal problems from the cat dander. We have the 510 unit in the living room and it takes care of dust and dander very well in a large area. Both are great units!

My wife is bothered by allergies in the winter and after a short time running this machine on low she noticed a big difference. On low speed it is quite quiet and seems to do the trick. The medium and high speeds are noticeably louder as you would expect but do move alot of air. All in all a very effective machine for cleaning a room's air of allergins.
