In addition, the Whirlpool Whispure 450 has historically been top-ranked by a leading consumer reporting magazine, garnering favorable ratings in dust and smoke removal and quiet operation. The 450 is a smaller version of the top consumer-rated Whirlpool Whispure 510 Air Purifier.
This HEPA air purifier is ideal for air purification in offices, family rooms, bedrooms, basements, and any other area in your home or office that would benefit from cleaner air. It is rated to cover up to 490 square feet.
Three Stages of Air Filtration
Formerly known as the Whirlpool Whispure AP45030S, this Whirlpool air purifier features three stages of filtration: a permanent pre-filter, a carbon filter, and a true HEPA filter. During operation, air initially moves through the 450's permanent pre-filter, which doubles as the air purifier's front cover. This washable plastic filter helps to catch large particles before they reach the carbon and HEPA filters. This in turn, helps boost the efficiency of the carbon and HEPA filters.
After moving through the permanent pre-filter, air then passes through a carbon filter, which helps absorb and neutralize irritating odors, such as cigarette smoke, chemical scents, and cooking odors. Finally, air moves through a true HEPA filter, where 99.97% of allergen particles sized 0.3 microns and larger are removed. These particles include mold spores, pollen, pet dander, ragweed, dust mites, dust particles and any other impurities that may be lingering in your indoor air.
This three-stage filtration system helps the Whirlpool Whispure AP45030K achieve exceptionally high CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) measurements for dust, smoke, and pollen. CADR ratings tell you how much of a specific pollutant an air purifier can remove in cubic feet per minute. As a rule of thumb, remember that the closer the number to the maximum CADR measurement, the more effective the air cleaner. The 450 maintains some of the highest CADR ratings in the industry.

Easy-To-Use Controls
To help simplify operation, the Whirlpool 450 features a manual control panel equipped with a rotary dial that allows you to adjust purification speeds. Choose from three fan speeds—low, medium, and high—depending on how quickly you want to purify your room air. The control panel also includes two filter indicator lights that illuminate to let you know when it's time to replace the carbon and HEPA filters.

Allergy-driven, draining sinuses have plagued me for nearly all the five years I have lived in my present home. Doctors blamed tree pollen for I live in mountain woods. But the problem has been the same regardless of which of the four seasons has come. And, the symptoms completely disappear when I stay at the mountain home in the woods of a friend in China. This finally led me to try an air purifier. After reading the reviews written about all the brands and models I could find, I decided on the Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier.
I set it in the living room where I spend much of the day and evening reading. In only two days my sinuses were clear. The room has an 11.5 x 16 foot Karastan wool rug which seems to have been the source of the allergic reaction. I am saving a fortune on Puffs tissue. In a while I will move the unit to my bedroom and clear the air there.
On low speed, the unit is very quiet, quiet enough to get used to and become unnoticeable. I have not tried the two higher speeds. The cleaned air is ejected up. As it is set next to a wall, the air stream circulates the warm air at the ceiling down into the room making it noticeably warmer in the winter (and probably somewhat warmer in the summer). The only thing I dislike is the color, white, which makes it an eye-sore in an otherwise attractive room.

I have used the purifier for less than one month and it is too early to comment on how effective it is. It moves a considerable amount of air but has not removed as much dust as I had hoped it would. Also, during the time when I am sleeping it is reasonably quiet on LOW setting.

I purchased this unit to help clear cigar smoke. My husband smokes in the house, in a room which has a folding door with large cracks for smoke to seep through. We have placed the unit outside the door of the smoking room, and it makes a noticeable difference in the odor in the house.
The unit is attractive and easy to use. The back is flat (no air intake or circulation in the back), which means you can place this along a wall, so it is unobtrusive.
Have not had this unit long enough to know what the maintenance will entail. Also, only run this when cigar smoking is going on, so cannot comment on how full time operation might affect electric bill.
I am glad I made this purchase, because it is helping with the problem.

I have two cats and in my den which is about 200 sq feet I have two Large litter boxes in the closet where I took the doors off so the cats can have the room and boxes that they need. Well the room was always dusty the TV, computer, the desk everything had to be wiped down quite often. With my new Whirlpool Whispure 450 it does an amazing job. You can actually feel yourself breathing better because I spend about 4 hours a day on the computer and I know the cats love it because you know there also breathing better. If you have a room up to I would suggest 400 sq maybe a little larger you need to get one and you can hardy hear it. I'm very happy and considering getting another one. My problem is that my eating area goes into my kitchen which goes into the great room it's about 1100 sq feet of open space so I would need more then one and I trying to find the spots to put them in I'm that impressed.

We set it up to clear the air in our den/living room area cause when sun shone thru windows, the dust motes were THICK! These 2 rooms are connected by a large opening and we spend 90% of our indoor time here.Approximately 400 sq. feet total.
Plus, we were sneezing at the puzzle table a lot. After we got the air cleaner, no more dusty looking air. I still dust the furniture,but it does seem to be not as often.
Motor is a bit noisy on medium and high. We set it on low mostly because of this reason.

After Consumer Reports recommended the model one step up from this (AP51030K) I started researching.
This model filters all the same irritants and just as well (99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns and larger). The ONLY difference is that the step up has another fan speed, a sleep mode, and a lock, and fancier filter status lights... none of which I need - just more to break.
As far as filtering, THIS IS THE SAME. This model has 3 speeds and a light for each filter when its time to replace. For about 100 less, this is the deal! The low speed is super quiet. It sits literally 3 feet from me while I'm on the phone at my desk and I have no trouble hearing the conversation. It arrived in perfect shape and in only 3 days. After 2 days of use my allergies (really bad in spring) inside have almost disappeared.

I must use a purifier in my bedroom. My husband complained about my old purifier being too loud so I wanted a new one that was quiet. Whirlpool Whispure has a blowing sound but no rattles that are disturbing.
The unit is powerful and really moves the air in the room. I love that it has a prefilter to remove most of the large particles before hitting the expensive hepa filter. I don't mind changing the less expensive prefilter on a regular basis. It's a rather large purifier but since it's able to sit right next to the wall when in use, it really takes up less space than my old round one. I'm very happy with my selection of this purifier.

I purchased the Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier (AP45030K) a little over a month ago and have been extraordinarily pleased with the purchase. It went above and beyond my expectations and I would recommend it to anybody who is suffering from allergy problems. I just moved into a new apartment and noticed that I would wake up every morning with bloodshot eyes and puffy skin underneath my eyes. I took allergy medication to try and remedy the problem but to no avail.
After looking online for a solution I came across several articles that mentioned that air purifiers may be a solution to the problem. Well, after looking at many reviews for all the different kinds of air purifiers out there I determined that the Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier was my best bet it was expensive for a college student, but the most effective in that price range (which is actually relatively cheap compared to some other air purifiers). Let me tell you, after running this unit for just under 3 hours I could tell that there was a noticeable difference in the air quality in my apartment (950 sq ft). I went to bed that night and woke up the next morning with no redness and no puffiness! I have been thoroughly pleased ever since and have not found a single complaint with this unit.
Some have said that the filters are expensive but this is only referring to the filter that must be replaced once every year. To me this is a moot point as I do not mind spending out around $65 for a yearly filter (plus around $20 for a pack of 4 carbon pre-filters that last 3 months each) when I know that this unit makes my air so much cleaner. This is by far the best purchase I have made in the last few years and there is a reason that others highly recommend this product as well.
