Whole house humidifiers, including console humidifiers and in-duct humidifiers, add moisture to cover your entire home efficiently and effectively. Console humidifiers generally humidify homes measuring up to 3,000 square feet. These humidifiers are portable and usually placed on the floor in a central location for the best moisture coverage. In-duct humidifiers install next to your furnace and connect directly to your water line to humidify all the rooms in your home. As air is heated, it passes through an evaporator pad saturated with water. Here, the air absorbs moisture and is released into your home along with heated or cooled air. Note that whole house console humidifiers are often heavy and can't be moved as freely. However, some models feature rolling casters to help you transport the unit from spot to spot for better humidity coverage. Console models are also available in a range of designs that attractively disguise them as furniture. In-duct humidifiers, also known as furnace humidifiers, are conveniently installed out of sight, saving space. Keep in mind, however, that you might need to consult an HVAC technician when installing one in your home.
