Whynter ARC-14S is a great product.
I have been using Portable Air-Conditioner for over 5 years. I did a lot of research before buying this unit to replace the old unit which is not really giving cool air anymore. I just received the unit yesterday (one day of use) and I can tell the big difference in noise, cold air and product design.

1. You can really feel the air output is cold.
2. The design is very nice.
3. I checked the power consumption (with Kill A Watt gadget) and it shows up as 120V and 1080 watts.
4. I like the Dual Hose Design as it does Not use room air to cool the compressor (which I read from online reviews, as such the room will Not lose cool air and also not be affected with Negative air flow)
5. The location on the Unit to fix the 2 hoses is just right (back mid section) which is about 4 inches from the bottom edge of the window (New York City Apartment). I only need about 20 inches of hose. I think the shorter the hose used is good.
6. Unit has 3 modes - Fan, Cooling Mode and Dehumidify modes. That means that I can use the unit 3 seasons in a year, from Spring to Fall.
Spring and Fall - for Dehumidify Mode
Summer - for Cooling Mode
**I will not use the Whynter ARC-14S as a Fan. I will still use a Box Fan as I want to get maximum life span out of the Whynter ARC-14S fan for dehumidify and cooling modes.
7. It has 3 fan speed modes which is great as I can set to Low Fan with Cooling Mode during night sleeping hours when the night temperature is not too high.
8. The unit is not as heavy as I read on many online reviews.
9. The Product is very well packed. I have bought more expensive stuff from more established large companies and none of them packed their products like Whynter.
10. The control panel display on unit is quite bright. Just paste a Post-It Note over it and problem solved.
11. The remote control is good and easy to operate. Just a matter of getting used to the icons/signs (as there are no words). I think I will use the Remote Control instead of the control panels (on front of Unit), so I do not have to bend over to look at the buttons to press so I do Not press the wrong buttons.
12. This unit is very effective in cooling 2 rooms facing west where the Summer Heat can send the room temperature to as high as 93 (most summer afternoons).

A great price, great product, very fast shipping, very good packing.

I installed this unit in the living room of an attic apartment. There was no window capable of being used for venting so I ran the tubes through the wall and vented under the eaves. The tubing run is right at the maximum of nine feet. I have an indoor outdoor thermometer with the probe behind the kneewall. The best this unit has done is lower the temperature thirteen degrees below the uncooled attic area. The hottest it's been in that area is 111F with an outside temperature around 95F. The living room temperature was 98F. Granted, it has a lot to overcome. The attic overhead is insulated but the kneewalls are not. Direct sun bakes the roof during the day. Mostly I keep it in fan mode with an overhead fan also running on high. This way, the room doesn't overheat and the compressor isn't running constantly. This unit is not the best alternative for me.

Comments about Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner:

I did a good amount of research and found this item to be the best for my needs. I followed recommendations for getting a portable A/C with a two window vent system. I insured the rated BTU would handle the room size (needed the 14,000 BTU). I have a large family room (room does not have high or vaulted ceilings)and it cooled it down nicely and evenly. I was not looking for a product to make the room feel like a freezer. The item was perfect and made the room very comfortable during 4 to 5 days of straight 95 - 100 degree weather. The included window kit was very easy to install. The product is on wheels, so we can easily wheel it into storage on the same floor; rather then having to lug it down into our basement. The only small con is its size; but I knew that before I purchased it. Great product so far!

Comments about Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner:

In three weeks of solid use this appears to be a solid, well made unit. However, more time is needed through the cooling season and part of the heating season to give a fair appraisal.

Comments about Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner:

Delivery was quick and well packaged. We purchased this to keep our garage cooler. We could not put in a regular wall or window A/C as our CCR's restrict such installations. Living in the Palm Springs area of California during the summer can reach temperatures 95* to 120* on a daily basis. I had the unit up and running in less than an hour from delivery to turning it on.

Our garage is over 500 sq. ft. with an 11 ft. ceiling. Most garages are not insulated, but ours is. I figured if it could at least keep the garage below 90* it would suffice. Surprisingly it will actually bring the temperature down and keep it at about 84*. Of course the unit is working constantly. Time will tell if it will withstand the constant running, but if it can't, it should not be advertised as such.

So far we are very happy with the unit.

The only negative would be the window installation accessories are inadequate. I understand they are made to be universal for multiple types of windows, but you will need to purchase some additional insulation to plug the gaps, otherwise it works for us.

Comments about Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner:

This portable AC was purchased to cool our living room because the windows on either side of the picture window are a tad too small to install a regular AC unit. It is VERY loud forcing us to blast the tv in order to hear it. The two hoses are huge and bulky and are an eyesore. The cooling is average and the unit itself is over-priced although Sylvane's price definitely beats it's competitors.

I use the product in my bedroom which is a good sized room fits a queen size bed, rocking chair, crib, dresser, tv, ect. With space left over. I like this product however it seems to cool the top of the room first because that is where the vents are pointed to. I feel like it could be cooler at times but only on really really hot days. It's a bit loud but with a newborn he doesn't mind the white noise. This website has the BeST PRICE for this product and for what I paid I think it was worth it! The only thing is that I had to tape it in my window which took away the portability to move it to the living room if I wanted to.

The unit looks better than most other units out there. It works very well for It's rated capacity The fan is really not too loud at all. I use this machine for my business (hvac) contractor. I have used more expensive brands, I think this is a good value for what It is designed for.

I moved into a split entry home last fall, with an open floor plan of living and dining room - easily less than 500 square feet, for sure. We've had 90+ degree weather for the last few days, and I was looking forward to coming home from work to my nice cool home. Nope - 82 degrees in the house. I would think 14,000 BTUs would cool my relatively small space, but it doesn't - even with a 4 foot high tower fan next to it to distribute the cool air throughout the space. I'm pretty bummed out, since it cost almost $600. It's very nearly useless. I could use it to cool my 150 sq foot bedroom, but the $99 5,000 BTU unit I bought does that just fine. I wish I had put the $$$ towards something else - not sure what that might be, since my windows aren't standard size.
