Window air conditioners are room air conditioners that are designed to keep areas of a home, office, or business cool and comfortable. Window AC units are most often installed inside standard double-hung windows. The self-contained appliances sit on top of a window frame in a partially opened window, with the warm air exhaust system facing to the outside and the cooling system directed to the inside of the room. Some window ACs can also be installed directly through a wall that faces the outside if a window is not available. Many units are designed with a slide-out chassis, on which the main unit sits inside a specialized mounting sleeve. First, the mounting sleeve is installed in the window or wall, and the unit slides into the sleeve. This feature makes installation easier, and also provides easy access to the unit for maintenance tasks or, eventually, for unit replacement.
