An excellent solution for controlling humidity, the Winix WDH871 70-Pint Dehumidifier combats excess moisture in temperatures as low as 36 degrees Fahrenheit. This low-temperature dehumidifier removes 70 pints of moisture per day from spaces as large as 1,500 square feet. In addition, this Energy Star dehumidifier has a programmable timer, two fan speeds, and three water removal options.
Humid air can cause stuffiness in your indoor environment, leave a musty smell in the air, and can contribute to structural damage to your home. If left untreated, excess moisture in the air may promote mold and mildew growth and trigger allergy and asthma symptoms. The energy-efficient Winix WDH871 Dehumidifier effectively removes water vapor from the air and lowers humidity, providing you with fresh, dry air around-the-clock.
The Winix 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Built-in Pump features a water collection bucket, a no-leak gravity drain attachment, and the following additional benefits:
Humid air means warmer, moist air, which makes you feel hot and clammy. As a result, your air conditioner has to work harder to cool your home. When used to supplement to your existing air conditioning system, portable dehumidifiers, such as the Winix WDH-871 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Built-In Pump, can accelerate the cooling process and even reduce your cooling costs. Lower indoor humidity means you can enjoy a cooler-feeling space without having to constantly adjust your thermostat.
High performance and energy efficiency are guaranteed with the Energy Star-rated and AHAM-certified Winix WDH871. To bolster efficiency further, the onboard Low Room Humidity Indicator monitors your indoor air and senses low humidity levels in order to signal when operation may not be needed. This function helps you conserve energy and save on your electricity bills.
The Winix 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Built-In Pump is loaded with automatic enhancements that make operation and maintenance effortless. Additionally, reliability features serve to extend the life of the unit in the event of frost buildup or water overflow.
During low temperature operation, frost may collect on the evaporator coils, reducing the dehumidifier’s performance. This Winix 70-pint dehumidifier is equipped with a built-in defrost control that senses frost buildup and turns the compressor off until the fan melts the frost off the coils, protecting the machine.
The WDH871 dehumidifier automatically shuts down when the water bucket is full. The bucket full indicator light glows on the electronic control panel when the container reaches 17 pints or if the bucket is not securely in place. Once the bucket is emptied or placed in the proper position, operation resumes.
This function independently restarts the dehumidifier and resumes operation after a power failure or an outage. Once the power is restored, the dehumidifier will restart on the last programmed setting.
The Winix WDH-871 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Built-In Pump contains several operating modes for exceptional performance and maximum comfort. In Auto Mode, the fan speed is adjusted to maintain a 50 percent humidity level. The fan and compressor run nonstop in Continuous Mode. The continuous indicator will remain lit until the setting is adjusted or the power is turned off.
Humidity Mode allows you to set your ideal humidity level. Adjusting the desired humidity percentage is as easy as pushing the touch button on the control panel. The humidity level can be adjusted from 35 percent to 70 percent in increments of 5 percent. The electronic control panel displays the corresponding percentage while the fan cycles on and off to maintain your ideal humidity level.
In addition, the cycle run timer operates the dehumidifier in programmed cycles of 3, 6, or 12 hours. Once the cycle run time indicator is lit, the dehumidifier will maintain the last humidity level programmed. The control panel will show the time until shut down briefly before returning to humidity level display.
The Winix WDH871 70-Pint Dehumidifier offers three water removal methods. The first method requires you to manually drain the dehumidifier when the water bucket is full. Using the grip handles, simply remove and empty the water container and properly position it back into place. As a second option, the unit features a quick-connect, no-leak gravity drain hose attachment. This allows you to attach a garden hose (not included) to the drain connector and direct the water down into a nearby drain or to an outside location using the force of gravity.
As a third option, a built-in condensate pump will automatically empty water into a location you choose. The drainage pump can lift water up to 15 feet above the dehumidifier into a sink, outside through a window, in a floor drain, to a separate water container, or directly into a household plant. The dehumidifier comes with an 18-foot drain hose for use with the internal condensate pump.

Wow, this humidifier is amazing! We put it in our basement as soon as it arrived. After 27 years in our home, we had water in our basement for the first (and hopefully only) time. Rugs were torn up and thrown out, and wallboard cut up to 1 foot as a result of action from the wet rug. And mold had started almost immediately, with the characteristic musty odor even after the water remediation was completed with fans, dehumidifiers and an air scrubber(aka Heppa filter), all industrial grade.
Even though this was a finished basement, it always smelled like a basement. Musty. We never expected our dehumidifier would remove the smell and so quickly too.
We don't have a sump pump yet -- never needed one (will be getting one installed soon.) We plan to hook our unit up to the sump pump once it is installed using the internal humidifier pump to get rid of the water extraction directly to the sump pump. Nevertheless, since the humidifier has 3 means of water extraction (bucket, gravity and pump), we can use it immediately with the bucket (and love the auto shut off in case it fills before we empty it.) Later, we will hook up the enclosed hose to the sump. The cycle feature is another nice touch, turning the unit on and off as needed.
My wife is very sensitive to sounds and odors, yet she finds it very quiet while operating, and remarked how fresh and clean the air now feels to her a plus she loves the design as well. She recently purchased a heppa filter for the bedroom, yet finds this dehumidifier makes her feel much better and now is considering a second unit for the bedroom.

Noisy
The machine seems efficient, but way too noisy. Tried it for a week, couldn't stand the noise, decided to exchange for something else.

i have been using this product in my basement which tends to get musty. With a minimum of noise, it has done an excellent job at dehumidifying. I would recommend this machine, as well as Sylvane.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
I bought this to replace a Frigidaire model that I'd used for 3-4 years. It kept freezing up so I decided to shop around - I am so happy that I found the Winix. It is quieter than my old dehumidifier and seems to work a whole lot better as well. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I think it is going to do well in my basement. I have an unfinished basement that is mostly underground (door access on one side) and it can get musty quickly. This new one seems to be chugging along nicely.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
I am using the unit in a four room seven hundred square foot basement that we rent out. The rooms are open to one another for circulation. The unit has dropped the humidity dramatically and collects about a gallon of condensated every two days. The results are truly dramatic.
The only drawbacks to the unit are 1) it is noisy and 2) the condensate tank is not as easy to remove and reinstall as it should be. As to the noise I do not have a noise meter but I am sure it is well over 60 db.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
Winix 70 WDH871 is a great unit in this price range, in fact it is the only unit I've tried in this price range that reliably automatically pumps out the water at the 18 foot distance specified. The major complaint I have with every other unit I've tried in this price range is the pump is not internal, and/or the pump fails to operate consistently, or it won't pump the distance specified. Iv'e tried units costing $1700 or more that still require external pumps that aren't always reliable. So far this units pumps great.
The water bucket is a bit clumsy to put in and take out, but since I always install dehumidifiers in the auto self pump mode, this is not a problem. Who wants to keep emptying the bucket 2 or three times a day?
This unit ships fast and dries fast. I ordered it on a Thursday afternoon and had it set up and running Monday night. Ready to run with just a simple hose connection on the sewer line. Unit dropped the relative air humidity (with low speed fans assisting the air flow) in a 1260 sqft crawlspace from 51% RH to 33% RH in two days running on the continuous setting. Once the place is dried out, I should be able to set it to automatic and save more energy.
Another plus for this unit is it operates down to 36 Degrees with an auto defrost cycle. This is great for the many crawlspace basements in New England that get cold but still need dehumidification year round due to earth floors. A lot of other units in all price ranges don't operate efficiently under 50 degrees.
I've installed a number of these units over the past 2 years with no reliability issues at this time. Keep them clean and they do well.
I will purchase more of these as the needs arise.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
I bought this de-humidifier to remove a musty/dank basement smell that had been a recurring problem every summer. I had first tried the hardware store remedies to remove dampness/odor but they didn't have any effect. The basement is about 750 square feet, unfinished with a concrete floor.
The built in pump works great; just thread the tubing out the basement window and into the yard. It is a bit noisy, but it's in the basement with the water heater so there is always a bit of noise there. The video on how to connect the tubing is helpful. With the level of dampness in my basement I didn't want to empty the container every day. I don't have the unit working during the winter as the tubing would freeze.
The odor is completely gone; I should have bought this years ago. I've also noticed fewer spiders in the basement!

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
This is an effective unit for cool environment operation typically as low as 62 deg F in the basement. The dehumidifier fan system appears to be much more robust than other units I have had over a 35 years span. It moves a much larger volume of air. It is louder than I expected from reading the specifications even on the low fan setting. However the unit doesn't vibrate like other dehumidifiers I have owned when the compressor is turned on or from panels vibrating. So the noise isn't as annoying as most manufactures. I still don't understand how energy efficiency is claimed when the circulation fan continually runs in all setting except cyclic. But this mode of operation seems to be predominant in new dehumidifiers when compared to the earlier ones that only turn on after the humidity exceeded a set point.

Comments about Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH871):
I like the fact that I can have the water drain into the pipe directly behind the washing machine, or have it empty into a bucket. I like using the bucket because I can then see clearly just how much dampness there is in the basement. The musty smell has completely disappeared. I highly recommend this product

This is our 4th dehumidifier in 5 years and so far so good. It works in lower temperatures that had lesser units icing up, the fan is very strong and we do not find it too noisy for the basement. Hopefully it will last a few years.

The dehumidifier works wonderfully. I have it set up as a gravity drain to the side yard. We've had it turned on in Auto mode, and it has been working for four months now with no problems at all.
