This bypass humidifier works with your HVAC or furnace system to deliver comfortably humidified air throughout every room of your home. It functions like an evaporative humidifier, evenly distributing 12 gallons of moisture per day. That’s enough to humidify tightly sealed homes up to 3,000 square feet, average sealed homes up to 1,500 square feet, and loosely sealed homes up to 750 square feet.
How It Operates
When connected to your HVAC system, the Aprilaire 500 and 500M Bypass Whole House Humidifiers moisturize your home's air using a natural evaporation process. When the humidifier controller triggers a need for more humidity, water flows from the connected water line into a distribution tray. The water flows over Aprilaire’s patented Water Panel evaporator where moisture from the distribution tray is evaporated into the incoming dry air. Humidified air is then distributed throughout your home via your HVAC system’s return duct and with the help of the blower.

- Bypass Damper: The model incorporates a built-in bypass damper and right/left discharge change-over for easier installation and operation.
- Built-In Drain: It’s also equipped with a built-in drain to flush mineral build-up from the machine. Plus, no standing water inside the unit means humidified air always remains fresh and clean. Maintenance is a fast once-a-year process.

- Model 500: Comes with a digital humidity controller that supports both automatic “set it and forget it” operation and manual humidity control.
- Model 500M: Comes with a manual humidity controller that supports manual humidity control only. Thorough instructions and guidance for setting and adjusting an ideal humidity level using the controllers are included with each model.

The humidifier in our home was broken and the humidity was under 30%. The air was hard to breath, we woke up with dry nasal passages and the our wood floors were looking dry. Overall it was a bad experience for everyone, house included. This unit changed everything for the better. My home is 2,000 square feet and this particular unit has no problem handling all three floors. I highly recommend it. My father-in-law installed it (a handy guy) and said it ""wasn't too bad."" I'd have a pro or a handyman you know install it to avoid any hassles in the future.
