It's an in-duct bypass humidifier that works with your existing heating and cooling system to provide comfortably humidified air throughout every inch of your home. Functioning as an evaporative humidifier, these models evenly distribute up to 17 gallons of moisture per day. How It Operates
Once connected to your HVAC system, the Aprilaire 600 and 600M Bypass Whole House Humidifiers humidify your home using a natural evaporation process.
- More Humidity Needed: When the humidifier controller triggers a need for more humidity, water automatically flows from the connected water line into a distribution tray located at the top of the humidifier.
- Moisture Creation: Water is distributed evenly across the width of this tray and directed to flow over Aprilaire’s patented Water Panel evaporator into the heart of the humidifier. Moisture from the distribution tray is then evaporated into the incoming dry air, creating comfortably humidified air.
- Distribution: Humidified air is then distributed throughout your home through your HVAC system’s return duct and with the help of the blower.

This is exactly what we were looking for. We experienced dry conditions that would make your skin dry, sinuses hurt and everything have that static feel. We have tons of hardwood floors in our home and decorative wood trim throughout. Every winter you would see this shrink and cracks open, and then swell back in the summer. The install was pretty easy with the right tools and was up and running right away. It manages the humidity based on the outdoor temp and kicks on the blower to add humidity when necessary. It's perfect, and I only wish we would have done it sooner.
