Introducing Pioneer Cassette Mini Splits

Here at Sylvane we’re always on the lookout for the next great year-round indoor comfort solution. Our Pioneer Cassette Mini Splits are a popular option, and since we’ve been getting so many questions about what exactly they are and how they work, right now seemed like a good time to provide some guidance. Keep reading to learn more about what a cassette mini split is, when they’re most effective, and the different options we offer for your space.

What’s a Cassette Mini Split?

Pioneer Cassette Mini Split Vent

When you think about a mini split, the first image that probably comes to mind is an indoor unit that mounts onto a wall in your room. Though more traditional wall mount mini splits don’t take up a lot of room, it’s still pretty easy to notice that they’re there when you first walk into a room.

On the other hand, instead of the indoor unit installing onto a wall, with a cassette mini split the air outlet actually installs directly into the ceiling. Some customers like how the smaller, vent design of a cassette unit creates a more traditional air conditioner look. Most of the main components remain hidden inside the ceiling, freeing up your wall space for decoration or other uses.

Additionally, it’s typically recommended that you install the vent in the center of the ceiling. This central location allows cassettes to cover a larger area than wall mount options might be able to.

When to Consider a Ceiling Cassette Unit

Deciding the best home comfort solution for your home can quickly become a confusing endeavor. Luckily, when determining whether a cassette mini split is right for you, there are a couple of areas you can assess.

  • Available Wall Space: If you lack enough available wall space, or just don’t want an air outlet on your wall, then a cassette unit is an ideal option.
  • Coverage Area: When you’re looking to cool larger spaces, particularly rooms you frequently use, like bedrooms or other living spaces, cassettes might just be what you’re looking for. They feature four vents that direct air in four different directions, allowing you to have total room coverage.
  • Will It Fit: Since these units are installing in the ceiling you’ll have to make sure you have the space to accommodate. Many of the units from Pioneer feature approximately 40-inch by 40-inch outlets, so it may take some configuring to get it to fit between rafters.
  • Professional Installation: Because of the complexity involved with installing a ceiling unit, installation must be performed by a licensed professional.
