Sylvane Reviews: The Hessaire MC26 Evaporative Cooler

For over 20 years, Sylvane has helped customers resolve air quality issues. Evaporative coolers are an energy-efficient solution to staying cool on those dry, hot summer days. After detailed research and testing, we're pleased to recommend the Hessaire MC26 Evaporative Cooler as a budget-friendly option to cover medium areas.

How Sylvane Reviews Evaporative Coolers

With all the different features available for evaporative swamp coolers, picking one to best suit your needs can be daunting. In our review process, we focus on the basics of performance, reliability, ease of use, and cost.

  • Maximum CFM & Coverage Area: What is the maximum airflow, measured in CFM (cubic feet per minute), and does it provide the indicated coverage?
  • Type/Design of Evaporative Cooling Media: What material is used to make the media, and what is its physical structure? Does it have any type of antimicrobial treatment?
  • Airflow Control: What type of airflow control is featured, including fan speeds and directional and/or oscillating louvers?
  • Source & Type of Water Control: How large is the water reservoir, is it easy to fill, and does it have a hose hook-up for continuous use? How is it controlled?
  • Best Usage: What is the best use for the evaporative cooler based on its features and CFM?
  • Cost: Does the pricing of the evaporative swamp cooler offer the best value for your money in terms of maximum performance and longevity?

Maximum CFM Range

The main factor in selecting an evaporative cooler is the airflow CFM, or cubic feet per minute. The Hessaire MC26 provides a maximum airflow of 1,700 CFM, which reaches up to 700 square feet. We found that it moves air approximately 35 feet in front, within about a 15-foot area thanks to the air swing feature.

Type/Design of Cooling Media

While other evaporative coolers only contain a single cooling pad made of absorbent material, the Hessaire MC26 operates with a set of 3 media pads–one for the back and one for both sides. All are made from OEM Xel50 high density rigid media and sculpted in a corrugated design. We observed that this enabled reliable and balanced absorption of water into the pads.

We like the fact that these media pads can be removed and cleaned in instances of hard-water mineral build-up, or changed completely should they become damaged.

Airflow Controls

You can adjust the airflow or air swing settings at any time with the easy-to-use touch control pad or the included remote control. Once selected, your settings will show up on the LCD panel.

We found that the incorporation of swinging internal louvers greatly increased the effectiveness of cool air distribution.

Source & Type of Water Control

The included water reservoir in the Hessaire MC26 holds 7.3 gallons of water and also has a water level indicator on the front for convenience. This provides for 3 hours of operation.

Also included is a solid brass hose adapter for garden hose connection, so the unit can operate continuously without monitoring the water consumption.

Another advantage we noted is that the water pump for this model can be turned on or off. This allows it to be used as a high-velocity fan, which is very helpful in humid climates.

Where the Hessaire MC26 is Best Used

With its 9-foot power cord and locking casters, this Hessaire is easy to move around and place for effective cooling in both residences and businesses.

Homeowners can use it outdoors in entertainment or recreation areas like pools, decks, and screened-in rooms. It’s also effective in garages and workshops, as well as greenhouses.

Commercial uses include outdoor eating spaces to keep clients cool, in workshops, in kennels, and at outdoor event venues.

Cost

The Hessaire MC26 evaporative cooler is priced in the lower range of Hessaire swamp coolers, smaller in size and coverage in comparison. For effective residential use in a range of spaces, this model is extremely versatile. With electronic controls, the inclusion of a remote control, a solid brass hose connector, and its ease of use, this swamp cooler is a very good value.

The Bottom Line From Sylvane

The Hessaire MC26 evaporative cooler efficiently provides a maximum airflow of 2,100 CFM, ideal for medium-sized outdoor spaces for both homes and businesses. From our tests, we recommend this air cooler for coverage of up to 700 square feet for numerous outdoor areas and events.
