Mini-Split Maintenance and Upkeep with SpeedClean

Mini-Split Maintenance and Upkeep with SpeedClean

Ductless mini-split systems are becoming an increasingly popular cooling solution. Not only do they offer individualized control and comfort, but when compared to other air conditioning options, like central air conditioners, they’re relatively easy to maintain. Even though there’s not any duct work that has to be maintained or large components that need routine cleaning, mini-splits are going to require a limited amount of upkeep.

Continue reading to learn more about common maintenance tips and a great tool that’s available to help you keep your system in tip-top condition.

Common Mini-Split Maintenance

The routine maintenance required for a ductless cooling system is going to vary depending on your selected manufacturer and model. That being said, there are several tasks you’ll want to be aware of to make sure your unit remains at peak performance.

  • Eliminate Dust and Debris: The best way to prevent damage to the internal components of your unit is to ensure that outside of it remains cleans. Routinely wiping the exterior with a cloth or gentle cleaner should help to eliminate the risk of debris making its way inside the system.
  • Check the Filter: After a period of time, usually specified in your owner’s manual, your unit’s air filter is going to require cleaning. Typically, you should be able to remove the air filter and either vacuum it or clean it with warm water and a mild detergent.
  • Make Sure There’s Plenty of Space: Mini-split systems require less space than other air conditioning options. However, to get the maximum performance out of your unit, it’s recommended that you provide 4 feet of clearance to ensure an unrestricted airflow.
  • If You Have a Heat Pump: If your model features a built-in heat pump, another item you’ll want to be on the lookout for is snow and ice accumulation. Any time you see this around the outside compressor, you need to quickly remove it to maintain an effective operation.
  • Be Safe: Always remember that before undertaking any cleaning tasks, you’ll want to turn off both the indoor and outdoor units to prevent an electric shock.
