How many pints do Danby dehumidifiers remove?
Updated Pint Capacity Ratings
You may notice Danby's new dehumidifiers are officially rated at smaller pint capacities than in the past. For example, a unit is listed as a Danby 50-pint model instead of 70 pints. The dehumidifiers haven't changed; the environment in which they were tested changed.
Instead of being tested at 80 degrees F, they were tested at 65 degrees F. This caused their official pint capacities to change, but the units are the same. They cover the same square footage and work just as efficiently, but they are rated at lower pint capacities since they were tested under new conditions.
Pint Capacities for Different Rooms
- Small Rooms: For small residential rooms up to 400 square feet, the 20-pint model is typically large enough to handle the area.
- Large Rooms: If your room is 1,000 square feet or more, consider one of the 40-50-pint dehumidifiers.
- Most Popular Basement Model: The Danby 50-pint dehumidifier with pump is a customer favorite. It covers rooms up to 1,200 square feet, includes an internal condensate pump, and automatically maintains your set humidity level.

Does Danby offer any Energy Star-rated dehumidifier options?
Yes! All the Danby dehumidifier options we offer come with an Energy Star seal for efficient, money-saving operation. See them all here.
Where can I use a Danby dehumidifier?
Danby dehumidifiers can be used in any residential environment with a practical room size between 400 and 1,200 square feet at temperatures between 41 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. They're most commonly used in finished basements and other large living areas, where they should be placed at least 8 inches from walls.
How do I program a Danby dehumidifier?
Danby dehumidifiers come with a timer on the electronic control panel, so it's easy to program the humidity level (in percent relative humidity). They also include an on/off timer button to automatically turn the unit on or off after a specified number of hours.
- Press the Timer button to initiate the auto-start and auto-stop feature.
- Use the arrow keys to set a start or stop time, from zero to 10 hours in half-hour increments or up to 24 hours in one-hour increments.
- Press the Timer button again to save the setting.
NOTE: Timers can't be programmed for specific hours of the day, however, if your dehumidifier is on, then you can program it to turn off after a set number of hours (or if it's off, then you can program it to turn on after a set number of hours).
How loud are Danby dehumidifiers?
All dehumidifiers make noise as they remove moisture from your air. Consider these points when it comes to noise level:
- The more powerful the model, the louder the dehumidifier tends to be.
- The fan speed also contributes to the noise level - turn down the fan speed for quieter operation.
- You can also set the programmable timers so it isn’t running at certain times like if you're working at home.
The bottom line: They make noise but shouldn’t interrupt your daily activities.
How do I drain my Danby dehumidifier?
There are multiple ways to drain your dehumidifier:
Manually Remove the Water Container
Moisture will collect in the unit’s water container. If the container is full, the dehumidifier will beep 8 times, the full bucket indicator light will flash, and the compressor will also turn off.
To remove the container, pull it towards you slightly. Then grab it from both sides and pull out the bucket. Simply pour the water out into a sink and replace it. Note: Don’t place the container on the floor before you empty it-it's uneven at the bottom.
Continuous Draining
Continuous draining is possible with gravity draining. Attach a standard garden hose (not included) to the back and direct it towards a floor drain. Water will automatically drain from the container for continuous dehumidification.
Automatically Pump Out Collected Moisture
These Danby dehumidifiers have internal condensate pumps that push water vertically and horizontally into a sink or other location. These models also include a hose for attaching to the port for draining with the pump.
Most models don’t come with a hose, so for gravity draining, just add a standard garden hose to the back of the unit. You can also add an affordable external condensate pump which automatically handles collected moisture.
