Air-Cooled vs Water-Cooled: Choosing Your Configuration

You can set up the BioKool in an air-cooled or water-cooled configuration, and the choice depends on whether ducting can leave the room.

Air Cooled (KBIO1411): The air-cooled configuration passes air over a coil and ducts the heat out, moving up to 450 CFM of air to keep the room circulating while drawing 11.5 amps (1,300 watts) through a 5-15P plug that fits a standard 15-amp outlet. It handles ambient temperatures from 65 to 105 degrees F and peaks at a 57 dB maximum, the louder of the two, so it is the better fit where some background noise is acceptable. A full-bucket indicator with auto shutoff stops overflows, and at 43.75 x 16.325 x 37.75-Inches (L x W x H) and 230 pounds, it is the larger of the 2.
Water Cooled (KBIO1411): The water-cooled configuration circulates water through its coil, so it can cool rooms where ducting has no way out. It moves up to 460 CFM of air, and its 52 dB maximum, the quieter of the two, makes a real difference in patient rooms. Power runs at 12 amps (1,380 watts) through a 5-20P plug, and it handles hotter spaces with ambient temperatures from 60 to 110 degrees F. If you're cooling a patient room or lab where air quality matters as much as temperature, put the BioKool at the top of your list. Go air-cooled whenever you can duct into the ceiling. Choose water-cooled only when ducting can't leave the room, and plan to connect it to a chilled or recirculating water loop, because otherwise it uses a lot of water.

Whichever setup you pick, plan your layout around the condensate pump, since a drain line lets it run nonstop. Few portables clean air this thoroughly while they cool.
