Description
Description
With the Kidde Plug-In Carbon Monoxide & Explosive Gas Alarm, you not only have protection from carbon monoxide (CO2) but also leaks that may occur involving natural gas or liquid propane gas.
This multi-gas detector and alarm gives you a choice of power sources and includes a digital display that identifies which gas is present and the levels of CO2 in parts per million (PPM).
Complete Protection
The Kidde is equipped with electro-chemical technology that detects carbon monoxide as well as a metal oxide sensor for detecting explosive gases such as natural gas (methane) and liquid propane.
- Carbon Monoxide: The Nighthawk detects carbon monoxide at 30 PPM to 999 PPM and will alarm when CO2 levels reach 70 PPM. The audible alarm sounds at 85 decibels at 10 feet, emitting a pattern of 4 quick beeps, a 5-second pause, and 4 quick beeps with the number showing on the display—the CO2 level in PPM.
- Explosive Gas: The gas sensor is designed to detect natural gas (methane) and propane, and alarms before 25% of the LEL (lower explosive limit). The alarm will sound with the pattern of 1 second alarm on, 1 second of silence—repeating with the "GAS" shown on the display.
Mounting Options
Since different people have various types of gas delivered to their homes, the Nighthawk CO2 and Explosive Gas Alarm can be mounted in several ways.
- Direct Plug-In: Plugging the Nighthawk into a standard outlet is fine for detecting carbon monoxide. The plug itself can be rotated to accommodate vertically or horizontally oriented outlets.
-
Power Cord Plug-In: This versatile detector and alarm includes a 6-foot power cord, which allows it to be mounted where it’s best suited.
- Carbon Monoxide: The power cord makes it convenient to mount the detector strategically on a wall when there is no outlet nearby or to place it on a table. CO2 is a cumulative poison, so long-term exposure to low levels can cause symptoms as well as short-term exposure to high levels.
- Natural Gas: If you have natural gas supplied to your home through a main line and use it for cooking, hot water, or a fireplace, you’ll want to consider that it is much lighter than air and rises quickly. The Nighthawk should be mounted no closer than 6 inches from the ceiling for the earliest detection.
- Propane Gas: Liquid propane is usually delivered by truck and stored in a tank near your home. Propane is much heavier than air and collects at lower levels. You’ll want to mount the detector near the floor to ensure the earliest detection and alarm.
- Battery: The Kidde Nighthawk is designed to hold a 9-volt battery for backup use in the case of a power outage. This is not a battery-operated device and should not be operated on the battery alone, as after 4 minutes, the unit will go into battery-save mode, and the alarm pattern occurs only every 60 seconds and only samples for explosive gas once every 8 minutes.
Additional Features
- Peak Level Memory: You will be alerted to a peak level event when CO2 concentrations are greater than 100 PPM. The display will alternate between PCO2 and the measured concentration in PPM. When you press the Peak Level button, the display shows the highest CO2 reading since its last reset or power-up.
- Test/Reset Button: Use to test the unit for proper operation and to reset the alarm.
- Digital Display: Displays the level of CO2 in PPM the unit is sensing and updates the reading every 15 seconds. Displays "GAS" when natural gas or propane is detected at 25% LEL.
- Safety Listed: The KN-COEG-3 is UL listed with a 7-year life and a 5-year limited warranty.
Summary
The Kidde Plug-In Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Alarm features electro-chemical technology for CO2 detection plus a metal oxide sensor that detects natural gas and propane gas. With mounting options and a backup battery, this detector and alarm help protect you and your family 24/7.
