The Whynter 14,000-BTU Dual-Hose Portable Air Conditioners have an eco-friendly design that is gentle on the environment and your budget. What Is a Dual-Hose Portable AC?
A dual hose portable air conditioner comes with one air intake hose and one air exhaust hose, the air intake hose pulls air into the portable air conditioner from the outside to cool off the compressor and condenser coil. The hot air generated from the air conditioner is then expelled out the exhaust hose.

- Dehumidifier Mode: Air is dehumidified as it passes through this portable AC. It removes up to 101 pints of excess water per day.
- Fan Mode: Circulate air with 3 fan speed settings—low, medium, and high.
- Heat Mode: When you select the model with heat, you'll enjoy 13,000 BTUs of heat per hour.

My previous review mentioned that the collected moisture was all expelled out the exhaust, and that I had never had to empty the tank. That is true when using it in A/C mode (cooling). With the fall weather, I switched to heating mode (about 60 degrees outside, but high humidity). The internal tank filled up in less than an hour. With humid conditions, the only way to keep this running in heat mode is to provide continuous drainage for the tank. Later in the year, on drier days, it ran OK without having to empty the tank.

I have been using the units to air condition elevator machinery rooms [10x10 concrete block] in South Florida. The units run 24 hours a day, set at 78 degrees, low fan speed, vented to the outside. They are truly self-evaporating when set on AC mode and I never have had a problem with that even in our weather. [I tried one in my apartment set on Humidify and was not self-evaporating but did shut itself off when tank was full.] They are rather noisy. I have only had one unit quit after 4 years of use. I highly recommend these units for certain uses [e.g garage, work shop] and they would certainly work inside an apartment up to about 1200 square foot as a back up unit to central AC. I think that they are too noisy for bedrooms.
