Purchased this product this weekend from Fry's locally, and I have been amazed at the powerful, quiet operation and build quality of the product. The piano black finish and chrome ""slide"" is a nice touch, and the four-speed operation ranges from ""is this thing on?"" quiet to ""Wow, I can't believe I can feel it across the room!"" powerful (without being very noisy!). We debated between this and the stand version, but opted for the table-top 660 because of the stable base (the stand version has a propensity to topple!), and the good looks! We loved the purchase so much we went back to fry's to buy another, and they were sold out! So, Sylvane.com's price with free shipping was the best on the Internet. A++.

I have had a love affair with Vornado for 20 years. Recently found out the crucial variable speed switch is no longer offered. This was, by far, the best feature, one was not limited to 3 speeds but could slowly adjust to any speed desired, I mean ANY speed. I have one 20 years old and repair it myself. I consider it the last great US fan. Metal tube base will never break. Dropped, moved, repaired and still just as good as it was new. The fans they make today are the same price but with out the single most defining feature, the variable speed, has a cheap plastic base and overall quality down significantly. I wanted another badly, I used new a model my folks have, no even close. I understand competition is tough and margins weakened so off-shore production becomes survival if they actually want to make money, but falling so far from what made them so distinct, high quality and worth the money because it will last at least 20 years is so utterly disappointing. News ones still MOVE A LOT of air, at least that remains. I'll still consider one but others on the market are cheaper, offer comparable quality and have the hated 3-speed and move a lot of air too. Not sure why I would spend the money anymore. I will cherish my decades old fan and repair it forever, can't tell the abuse it has received only to be one of the most reliable products I've ever bought in my life. I hope they consider variable speed, I might get the heavy duty then rip out the switch and install…

We already do all the usual things - keeping things unplugged when not in use, turning off lights, LED bulbs, opening windows instead of turning on the A/C, etc. - to keep our electric bill low. Our bill is consistently half what our friends and family in the area pay but we wondered if we could do something more since we're stuck using baseboard heat and a couple of window a/c units. After some researching, I found people using this product to circulate air and it appeared to help with how often they used their heat/cool and so I decided to give it a try. It works! I began using it when it was still chilly outside. Pointing the Vornado up at the already warmed air, circulated that air back down and we found ourselves even forgoing sweaters at the tail end of winter. Now in the rainy season, we've found the Vornado making a remarkable difference in how the humidity affects us indoors - we've been able to avoid turning on the a/c but for a handful of times so far this year. Using the a/c is different, too. We set the Vornado up directly underneath of the unit and point is at an empty wall across the living room. We can keep the a/c turned down low and the continuous breeze, circulating the cooler air at the bottom of the room, keeps all of us feeling cool. Our electric co-op maintains a website where we can check usage daily. Comparing our usage from last year at this time, I've noticed several kwH differences in our favor. I highly recommend this product!!

I use it at our farm in mid-Shenandoah Valley, where mostly we need to move air a bit, we have fed A/C days. For this it is outstanding! Easy controls, even in the dark. Very quiet, especially at the lower levels. I love it.
