Boasting patented auto-drain technology, it's also extremely low maintenance and an included window kit means you'll be feeling better in no time.
Auto-Draining Technology
For the ultimate in convenience, the Whynter ARC-12S Portable Air Conditioner features Whynter's patented auto-draining condensate technology. This system automatically exhausts all collected condensate outdoors in most environments. The auto-draining system also uses moisture collected during the air intake process in order to cool outgoing air, which boosts the portable AC's efficiency.
In certain environments, the ambient humidity level may result in some moisture collecting in the ARC-12S' condensate tank. To protect your environment in the event of a condensate overflow, this Whynter portable air conditioner features a tank full indicator that automatically stops AC operation until you can manually empty the tank.
Multiple Operating Modes, Quiet Operation
The Whynter Eco-Friendly 12,000 BTU (ASHRAE)/7,500 (DOE Standard) Portable Air Conditioner offers you both convenience and flexibility during operation through three operating modes:
- Air Conditioner Mode – Cool your space with your choice of three fan speeds – high, medium, and low.
- Dehumidifier Mode – Use the portable AC as a dehumidifier on especially humid days to remove 91 pints of excess moisture from your environment.
- Fan Mode – On days when air circulation is enough to stay cool, use the ARC-12S as a comfort-boosting fan.
The Whynter Portable Air Conditioner is also known for its exceptionally quiet operation when compared to similar-size portable ACs. At its highest fan speed, the ARC-12S emits 52.5 decibels of sound, which is slightly louder than a whisper.
Additional Features
- Window Kit Included – An upgraded plastic window kit is included for easy installation. The kit includes a window slider panel that is extendable up to 36 inches, an exhaust hose that extends up to 4 feet, and all necessary installation hardware.
- Thermostatic Control – Use the electronic pushbutton controls to adjust unit cooling from 61 to 89 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Manual Oscillation Control – Easily adjust airflow from left to right using manually adjusting louvers.
- 24-Hour Programmable Timer – Program timed operation up to 24 hours using the onboard programmable timer.
- Washable Pre-Filter – A washable filter helps remove particles and allergens from your room's air. To keep the filter working at its best, clean it after every 100 hours of use.
- Carbon Filter – The carbon filter helps absorb odors and keep them from returning.
- Auto Restart – In the event of a power failure, the portable air conditioner will restart automatically.
- Compressor Time Delay – After switching the portable air conditioner off, the compressor will not turn back on until 3 minutes have passed. This helps protect the quality of the compressor and its operation.
- LCDI Plug – The Whynter ARC-12S Portable Air Conditioner is equipped with a Leakage-Current Detection and Interruption (LCDI) plug to protect against fire hazards.
- Carrying Handle – Use the built-in side carrying handles to help you safely move the unit.
- Remote Control – Control portable AC operation from a comfortable distance with the full-featured remote control.
- Casters – Easy-roll casters make it easy to move the Whynter portable AC from space to space.
Effective, Eco-Friendly Cooling
The Whynter Sno Portable Air Conditioner is an effective, efficient, and eco-friendly solution for cooling bedrooms, offices, classrooms, garages, workshops, and computer rooms. The unit can also be used as a supplementary cooling source to help offset the often costly operation of a central air conditioning system. As part of a new generation of green cooling alternatives, the Whynter ARC-12S is constructed with numerous eco-conscious features, including:
- R-410A Refrigerant – This CFC-free refrigerant is a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant that will not harm ozone should a leak occur. As an added plus, portable ACs that use R-410A refrigerant provide more efficient cooling and experience less wear and tear on internal components over their lifespan.
- RoHS-Compliant – This Whynter portable AC complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. Often called the lead-free directive, this directive restricts the use of six toxic substances known to harm the environment in the construction of electrical and electronic equipment.
- High Energy Efficiency – The ARC-12S carries a high Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 11.1. A portable AC's EER is the ratio of cooling capacity (BTUs) to total energy usage (watts). Typically, portable air conditioners with EERs over 10 are considered the most energy efficient and cost-effective cooling options.

I am a private music teacher with a home studio in my garage. I live in Southern California. In the summers, it can get over 100 degrees outside. Temperatures in the 90s are very common. Inside a garage, it's at least 10 degrees hotter! I had my garage finished. There is insulation in the wall and ceilings behind drywall. My garage door is insulated. The side access door is insulated. I use this A/C when it's really hot and it makes it way more comfortable to teach! I vent the unit through one of the two shoebox sized vents near the floor on the outer garage wall. I purchased some rigid styrofoam from Home Depot and cut it to fit the shape of the rectangular vent. I used the hose end to imprint the diameter in the center of the styrofoam. I then cut out the circle and have a perfectly way to vent out the hot air! I would definitely buy another unit like this. My only issue is that I probably should have got a larger one for my entire garage.

I bought this as part of my hurricane package of generator and generator panel. My generator will run my entire house with the exception of my 2 big central a/c units. But I figured I could run this portable with the generator and keep our bedroom cool when the juice fails after a 'cane. No hurricane - so far - but my big number one central unit died this past week. Just for grins, I plugged this wee beastie in and, believe it or not, it has managed to keep almost 3000 sq feet of living space at 79 degrees in Florida in August. I am amazed! Without the unit, the house goes to 84 degrees. One of my best purchases! No down side to this either. Yeah it has some inherent wind noise factor, but I do not find it very loud or annoying in the least - especially since I am comfortable until the a/c guy gets here with the new parts for the big unit. If there were 6 stars, I would give it that.

I liked this one so much that I purchased a second one. The two features that are most important to me are the 3 speed fan and that it is a self evaporating unit that I never have to empty. For some reason, my home central air conditioning will not effectively cool my bedroom below 80°. I like to sleep at 70° and have no issues with the Whynter 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner. When the season is over, I will roll it into a closet until next summer. I put the 2nd unit in my TV room which has similar issues as the bedroom. The styling is great and the price was right. I highly recommend this unit.
