Info & Guides

Description

Most thermostats stop at temperature. The Aprilaire S86 Programmable Multi-Stage Universal Thermostat w/ IAQ Control also runs your home's humidity, ventilation, and air cleaning equipment, so comfort and air quality follow the same schedule. Menu-style navigation keeps setup quick, and the line comes in standard and Wi-Fi configurations.

If your home has a whole-house air cleaner, the S86 can run it on demand through event-based cleaning. The 3 Hours event runs the system nonstop, then returns to your last operating mode. During allergy season, the 24 Hours event gives your indoor air a full day of continuous cleaning.

Key Features and Benefits of the Aprilaire S86 Programmable Multi-Stage Universal Thermostat w/ IAQ Control

  • Multi-Stage Compatibility: Supports 2 heating and 2 cooling stages on conventional systems, or 4 heating stages on heat pumps, so you can match it to your equipment.
  • IAQ Control: Manages humidity and ventilation from the same thermostat, so you can adjust indoor air quality without a separate controller.
  • 7-Day Programming: Set a different schedule for each day, with up to 4 time periods per day to match your household's routine.
  • Progressive Recovery: The early-start function begins heating or cooling ahead of schedule, so your home reaches the target temperature right at the programmed time.
  • Heat Blast: Raises room temperature by 3 to 5 degrees F on demand when you want quick warmth without changing your schedule.
  • Color Touchscreen: The 2.4-inch display shows room temperature beside your setpoint, and you can check the current mode and event status at a glance.
  • Wired Outdoor Sensor: The included outdoor sensor displays outside temperature and relative humidity, so you can compare conditions inside and out.
  • Operating Modes: Choose heat, cool, or auto mode, plus an emergency heat function for heat pumps with auxiliary heat.
  • Service Reminders: A filter change indicator and service check reminders tell you when your HVAC system needs attention.
  • Temperature Scale: Display all readings in Fahrenheit or Celsius, whichever scale you prefer to read.
  • Compact Profile: The thermostat measures 4.38 x 0.8 x 4.38-Inches (L x W x H), so it sits slim against your wall.

Standard vs. Wi-Fi: Choose Your Connectivity

The S86 comes in 2 Wi-Fi capability options: a standard model without Wi-Fi and a Wi-Fi model with remote and voice control.

  • Standard Model S86NMUPR: You program and adjust this model entirely at the thermostat through its touchscreen and menu-style navigation, with no Wi-Fi connection or home network setup required.
  • Wi-Fi Model S86WMUPR: Connects to the AprilAire Healthy Air App, so you can adjust settings from anywhere, and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control.

Sylvane's Expert Take

If you're a homeowner with a heat pump or multi-stage system plus whole-house humidity or air cleaning equipment, the S86 lets one thermostat run it all. It works best in homes where allergy season makes air quality as important as temperature.

The included outdoor sensor is easy to overlook, but it puts outdoor humidity right next to your indoor readings. If you only make changes at the wall, the standard model is enough. If you want app or voice control while you're away, the Wi-Fi model is worth choosing.
