A new year represents a welcome change for just about everyone. But with many of us working from home, the "new normal" isn't so new anymore - so it may be a good time for reminders on how to maintain healthy indoor air quality and try out a few new healthy indoor activities.
Use these 21 tips to stay healthy indoors in 2025:
#1 Shower immediately after being outside or in public areas.
#2 Disinfect your cell phone regularly.
#3 Maintain a routine. Wake up and get ready at the same time as normal. Routines help improve mental health and reduce anxiety.
#4 Drink plenty of water.
#5 Use an air purifier! There's no better way to get rid of airborne particles than with an air purifier.
#6 In fact, you can upgrade to a medical-grade air purifier for the cleanest air possible or one specifically designed to fight off viruses.
#7 Focus on your mental health: Read, do puzzles, play games..anything that keeps your mind fresh and off your phone.
#8 Sleep! Getting enough rest keeps your body and mind strong.
#9 Speaking of sleep, adding a humidifier to your bedroom can help you sleep better in winter. They also relieve irritated sinus passages, itchy skin and dry eyes caused by warm, dry air.
#10 Try out new recipes. Cooking healthy meals and new types of food is a nice change up.
#11 Take on DIY projects. Now is as good a time as ever to paint that dresser or clean out that junk drawer.
#12 Open a window for fresh air and ventilation.
#13 Too cold to open a window? Invest in a ventilation fan that can help move stagnant air (that may have airborne particles) out of your space.
#14 Exercise at home. Just a 30 minute exercise can boost your mood and relieve stress. YouTube is full of free workouts - from boxing to cardio, weight lifting and low impact exercises. (Speaking of YouTube, our channel is full of free air quality advice year-round 😀.)
#15 Clean and sanitize more than ever. It doesn't have to take long: A quick vacuum, wiping down of counters or sanitizing door handles can help you stay healthy.
#16 Investing in a steam cleaner may be worth your while. They are chemical-free ways to sanitize surfaces in your home. And they can even get rid of viruses.
#17 Meditate. Sound mind = sound body, right? Give it a shot. You may be surprised how much it helps.
#18 Wear a mask in public indoor spaces. I know you've heard this one, but no list is complete without it.
#19 Find a new podcast. Bonus points if it's on a topic that will improve your life (like investing or learning a new skill).
#20 Upgrade your HVAC filter. This isn't the sexiest idea, but heavy-duty HVAC filters will catch dust and other particles and keep your HVAC system running efficiently.
#21 Get outdoors! OK, this isn't indoor living. But taking a walk or relaxing outside can refresh your mind and body. Outdoor heaters can help if you live in cold weather areas.
