Description
Description
Most thermostat swaps stall at the setup screen. The Aprilaire S84NSU Programmable Single-Stage Universal Thermostat skips access codes entirely and guides you through setup with plain-language prompts on its color display. You can have a working schedule within minutes of mounting it on the wall.
Key Features and Benefits of the Aprilaire S84NSU Programmable Single-Stage Universal Thermostat
- Heat Blast: Heat Blast raises room temperature by 3 to 5 degrees F, so you can warm a cold room quickly without reprogramming anything.
- Progressive Recovery: Progressive recovery technology starts heating or cooling early, so your home reaches the target temperature right as each programmed period begins.
- Flexible Scheduling: Program every day alike, split weekdays from weekends, or set a full 7-day schedule, with 4 time periods per day to match your routine.
- Color Touchscreen: A 1.77-inch color graphical display with electronic touchscreen controls shows room temperature beside your setpoint, along with current mode and event status.
- Auto Changeover: Auto mode works alongside dedicated heat and cool modes, letting the thermostat pick heating or cooling for you as the seasons shift.
- Dual Power: You get 2 AA alkaline batteries in the box as a backup power source, so the thermostat has a second supply to draw on.
- Service Reminders: A built-in filter change indicator and service check reminders tell you when your HVAC system needs attention, so you stay on top of maintenance.
- Temperature Scale: Readings switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, so you can view temperatures in whichever scale you prefer.
- Compact Footprint: The thermostat measures 3.75 x 1 x 3.75-Inches (L x W x H), giving you a slim profile that takes up little wall space.
Heat Pump or Conventional System: Check Your Stages First
Before you swap thermostats, match the S84NSU to your equipment. On a single-stage heating and cooling system, it controls 1 heating stage and 1 cooling stage. On a heat pump, it supports 2 heating stages and 1 cooling stage.
If your heat pump has auxiliary heat, an emergency heat setting lets you run that backup heat on its own. If your system calls for a second cooling stage or more than 2 heating stages, look for a thermostat rated for that configuration.
Sylvane's Expert Take
If you're replacing a basic thermostat on a single-stage furnace and air conditioner, or on a heat pump with auxiliary heat, the S84NSU gives you full programming with almost no learning curve. It works best in homes with a predictable weekly routine, where 4 daily periods and progressive recovery do most of the work. Heat Blast is the feature you'll use most on cold days. For an easy upgrade that sticks to the schedule you set, this Aprilaire thermostat is easy to recommend.
