Description

A window air conditioner blocks your light and occupies a window all season. This Whirlpool 10,000 BTU Through-The-Wall Air Conditioner sits in an exterior wall instead, so your windows stay clear for living rooms and bedrooms. It ships with a wall trim kit and rear grille, so the inside and outside both look finished. It comes in No Heat and With Heat configurations, depending on whether you want cooler months covered too.

Cooling is only part of what this air conditioner does. Sleep mode adjusts temperature and fan speed through the night, and Fan-Only mode moves fresh air around on mild days. After a power outage, auto restart brings back your saved settings and starts running again. An indicator light on the control panel tells you when the front-access filter needs cleaning.

Key Features and Benefits of the Whirlpool 10,000 BTU Through-The-Wall Air Conditioner

  • Cooling Power: 10,000 BTU of cooling suits medium rooms from 350 to 499 square feet, so you can cool a full living room from one wall.
  • Refrigerant and Safety: Uses R-32 refrigerant to carry heat out of the room, and UL certification confirms the electrical design meets an independent safety standard.
  • Dehumidification: Dry mode removes up to 1.2 pints of moisture per hour, helping sticky, humid rooms feel more comfortable.
  • ECO Mode: Runs the compressor at intervals while the fan keeps circulating cooled air, cutting your energy use and running costs.
  • Directional Airflow: 2 sets of louvers aim air in 8 directions, so you can spread cooling evenly or point it at your seat.
  • Fan Speeds: Choose from 3 fan speeds, or let Auto mode change fan speed and operating mode to hold your thermostat setting.
  • Programmable Thermostat: Set your target temperature anywhere from 62 to 86 degrees F, and the air conditioner holds the room at that comfort level.
  • Control Options: Electronic touch controls and a full-function remote let you change settings from the sofa, and the 24-hour programmable timer schedules on and off times.
  • Power Draw: Cooling draws up to 980 watts and 11 amps, with an estimated yearly operating cost of $96 to help you plan your summer budget.
  • Compact Chassis: The fixed chassis measures 24.2 x 20.2 x 14.5-Inches (L x W x H) and has a 5.9-foot power cord to reach a nearby outlet.

No Heat vs. With Heat: Choosing Your Configuration

You can get this Whirlpool wall air conditioner in a No Heat or a With Heat configuration, depending on your home's wiring and whether you want extra warmth in cold weather.

  • No Heat: This cooling-only model runs on 110 to 120 volts with a 3-prong NEMA 5-15P plug and a 125-volt, 15-amp breaker rating, so it works with a standard household outlet. It moves up to 265 CFM, and its 10.1 EER means lower energy use. It runs at 58 dB for a quieter room and weighs 64.1 pounds.
  • With Heat Model WHAT102-HAW: This model adds 10,600 BTU of supplemental heat for chilly days when you'd rather not run the furnace, though it isn't meant to be your main heat source. It runs on 208 to 230 volts with a NEMA 6-20P plug and moves up to 282 CFM for stronger air circulation. Its 9.6 EER means slightly higher energy use. It operates at 61 dB and weighs 65.9 pounds.

Note: The With Heat model requires a 208 to 230-volt circuit with a 250-volt, 20-amp breaker rating and a matching NEMA 6-20 receptacle.

Sylvane's Expert Take

If you're cooling a medium bedroom or living room and want your window back, this Whirlpool is a strong fit. The choice comes down to your wiring.

Pick No Heat if your wall has a standard 110 to 120-volt outlet, since it also runs quieter and slightly more efficiently. Choose With Heat when a 208 to 230-volt circuit is already in place and you want backup warmth on cold mornings. With either model, ECO mode and the timer do the most to keep your summer cooling bills low.
