For over 20 years, Sylvane has worked with customers to resolve air quality issues, and customers often ask which dehumidifiers we recommend for large spaces, whole homes, and office areas. The Frigidaire High Humidity 50 Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier, available with an optional internal condensate pump, provides flexibility in placement and operation.
How Sylvane Reviews Dehumidifiers
Look at any dehumidifier, and you'll quickly see that the features and functions each unit brings to the table are endless. Instead of including all the various features of the Frigidaire High Humidity 50-Pint dehumidifier, we take an in-depth look at the basics of performance, ease of use, prime features, and cost.
- Coverage Area and Where It Can Be Used: What types of rooms is the dehumidifier typically used in, and can it hold up to its stated coverage area?
- Efficiency and Moisture Removal Capacities: Knowing its total dehumidification capacity is great, but how has the dehumidifier performed in tests at different temperatures?
- Placement and Installation Options: Does the dehumidifier need to be installed? Can you set it on the floor? How hard is it to set up the dehumidifier?
- Controlling The Dehumidifier: How easy is the unit to control? Does it require additional controllers or is everything you need included with the product?
- Included Air Filtration: Does the dehumidifier have the ability to provide clean dehumidified air to your space?
- Cost: Is the dehumidifier priced to deliver the maximum performance for your money?

This efficient dehumidifier has a plastic body, heavy-duty casters, and a compact design, allowing it to fit easily into the corner of a media room, office conference room, finished basement, or any room up to 1,200 square feet in size. We find that the model with an internal condensate pump makes it perfect for large rooms or spaces where oversight is inconvenient, like a detached workshop, garage, or storage building.

Moisture Removal and Efficiency
Appliances that receive the ENERGY STAR certification must meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the United States EPA. These Frigidaire High Humidity 50-pint dehumidifiers have earned this prestigious certification for their efficient operation.
According to Energy Star testing, both dehumidifiers have a water removal capacity of 50 pints per day, and an Integrated Energy Factor of 1.8 L/kWh (L/kWh – Liters per kilowatt-hour). This translates to 3.8 Pints/kWh.
The coverage area of 1,200 square feet is based on spaces at 65° F and 60% relative humidity (RH). The 50-pint capacity is based on new DOE standards, equivalent to the 70-pint 2012 DOE standards.
Placement and Installation Requirements
Equipped with four heavy-duty rolling casters, we find that this dehumidifier is very easy to roll into place within 6 feet of a standard 120-volt power outlet. Depending on where it is used, there are three methods of managing the collected condensate.
- Manual Emptying: We found that the front-mounted collection bucket is easy to remove and empty when necessary. It holds 16.9 pints of water.
- Continuous Gravity Draining: A standard garden hose can be attached to the left drain port, with the other end extended to a convenient drain location.
This versatile dehumidifier is available with an optional internal condensate pump. The set-up of this model is as follows.
- Continuous Pump Draining: A drain hose of ½-inch (12.7mm) in diameter, and not longer than 16.4 feet should be used for this set-up. It attaches to the right drain port and can be extended up or horizontally to a drain location in a sink, out a window, or other location.
Controlling The Dehumidifier
An electronic control panel is located on the top of the unit with touch buttons for powering the unit on/off, setting the relative humidity level, selecting the fan speed, using the on/off timer, and the pump.
We also like that the control panel displays the relative humidity, and features indicator lights for the pump when in use, a full water bucket, and filter cleaning.
Included Air Filtration
Most portable room dehumidifiers include some type of air filtration, and this Frigidaire 50-pint model has a washable antimicrobial air filter which captures harmful allergens, kills germs, and helps manage odors. When cleaning is necessary, we found that the filter is easily accessed by opening the back grille and removing the filter.
Cost
The Frigidaire High Humidity 50-Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier (FFAD5033W1/FFAP5033W1) includes the option of a model with an Internal Condensate Pump. These models have a retail price in the mid-range of similar models, and are an excellent value, whether you select the model with the pump or the model with gravity draining.
With their ENERGY STAR certification and the option of an internal condensate pump, these reliable dehumidifiers are very reasonably priced.
The Bottom Line From Sylvane
Removing 3.8-pints of moisture per kilowatt-hour, the Frigidaire High Humidity Energy Star 50-Pint Dehumidifier with an optional Internal Condensate Pump is an efficient, reliable unit.
From our own tests and review, we recommend this dehumidifier for customers looking for cost-effective, energy-efficient dehumidification for large, finished residential spaces up to 1,200 square feet.
