The Whynter ARC-148MS is a mobile and powerful portable AC with 14,000 BTUs (ASHRAE)/8,500 BTUs (DOE Standard) of cooling power for rooms up to 500 square feet. Ideal for apartments or rooms without access to central AC, this single-hose portable air conditioner is easy to move to different rooms and store. Available as a model with heat, which is great for rooms needing comfort year-round.

This eco-friendly portable AC also features a hassle-free fully self-evaporative design, dehumidifier function, and 2 filters to clean your air as it cools.

Multiple Modes

Use the fully-functional remote control or digital controls to select a mode that best fits your needs:

  • Cooling: This 14,000 BTU (ASHRAE)/8,500 BTU (DOE Standard) air conditioner keeps rooms up to 500 feet full of fresh, cool air.
  • Heating: The Whynter ARC-148MHP model offers 11,000 BTUs of supplemental heat for your space. Heating not available in the Whynter ARC-148MS.
  • Dehumidify: To remove excess moisture without cooling, turn on this mode. It removes up to 71 pints of moisture per day.
  • Fan-Only: Select 1 of 3 fan speeds to avoid room stuffiness on mild days.
  • Auto: Turn on Auto mode to have your portable AC do the work for you: it chooses a mode based on your ambient room temperature.
  • Sleep Mode: Turn this on for low energy and low noise operation. It will gradually increase the set temperature by 2 degrees F for 30 minutes, then once again in the second 30 minutes. This new temperature will remain for 7 hours while you sleep.

Fully Self-Evaporative Design

This portable air conditioner and heater is designed to automatically exhaust all collected moisture out the hose while cooling. This makes for hassle-free operation and limits how often you'll have to empty its internal pan. In extremely humid conditions, you may want to consider attaching a drain hose for continuous draining.

Cleans Air As it Cools

In addition to cooling, heating, and dehumidifying, this self-evaporative AC also removes impurities from your space. A Silvershield pre-filter catches large particles like pet dander and dust, while a 3M filter traps odors and other particles. This ensures the air coming out of this AC is cleaner than the air entering it. Wash the pre-filter as needed, and replace the 3M filter every 3 months.

    I would buy again

    Last one I got (8K BTU Honeywell) was probably sufficient. This one cycles more than I would like but it's quieter than my old one. I do like the evaporative system but I still need a hose for continuous draining. Works well.

    I will no longer buy a portable a/c online!

    I ordered this a/c on 5/26/19, and it was delivered by UPS 6/4/19; the box was somewhat roughened at base, the interior foam packing cracked here and there, but a/c appeared intact. I followed setup directions, and next day attempted to use dehumidifier function (a/c not yet needed). Dehumidification did not happen, no condensate produced, and I exchanged emails with Whynter about getting the unit to work. Whynter's responses were pro forma. Finally, after 2 or 3 days of fruitless operation, I asked for a refund/return on 6/9/19. Sylvane, an email said, would get back to me within a day, but that didn't happen. I had to make calls to Sylvane to initiate the return with UPS. I was told that, once unit was picked up by UPS, I would be issued a refund--the refund was issued 6/18, but the details said a wait of 5 to 10 days (!) would happen before I would see the money posted to my card. I'm still waiting as of 6/27 around noon. In the meantime, I went to local store, picked out a Hisense portable a/c with dehumidifier in an intact box, brought it home (it was better packed compared to Whynter), set it up quickly for it to produce condensate and lower the humidity effectively. Here's the result: I have paid for two units, one works, the other that doesn't heading back 3000 miles to California. Sylvane has my money. I can say all calls to Sylvane were polite. However, this is a frustrating experience in addition to having my money kept by others even though what was sold to me was…
