Info & Guides

Description

Replacing a worn shutter fan goes faster when the new one fits the opening you already have. The Hessaire 16 Inch CFM Shutter Mounted Exhaust Fan is made to retrofit any standard exhaust shutter fan. It arrives pre-assembled and pre-wired, so once it is mounted you can plug it in and start clearing the air.

The fan also works well in basements and crawl spaces where damp air collects. It suits commercial or industrial rooms too. Each fan is made in the USA, with a gray powder coating that protects the finish from weathering and rust over years of use.

Key Features and Benefits of the Hessaire 16 Inch CFM Shutter Mounted Exhaust Fan

  • High-Volume Airflow: Moves up to 1,400 CFM at a top speed of 1,550 RPM, so you can clear hot air and fumes from spaces up to 350 square feet.
  • Retrofit Fit: Fits a square wall cutout of 16.5 inches per side, so you can mount it in the same opening as your existing standard shutter exhaust fan.
  • Plug-In Power: A pre-wired 9-foot cord runs on 110-120 volts and draws just 115 watts at 1.0 amp, so it runs on ordinary household power.
  • UL705 Certified: Carries UL705 safety certification, and the 1/2-inch guard openings keep the fan OSHA compliant for work areas where people move around it.
  • IP55 Sealed Motor: The totally enclosed, permanently sealed ball-bearing motor carries an IP55 rating against dust and light water splashes and never needs lubrication.
  • Thermal Cutoff: Built-in thermal cutoff protection cuts power if the motor locks up, which keeps the fan from overheating while you are away.
  • Conversation-Level Sound: At 6.4 sones, the fan is no louder than a normal conversation, so you can keep working nearby while it runs.
  • Weather-Stripped Shutters: Self-closing aluminum shutters with weather-stripping close quietly when the fan stops and seal the opening against outside noise.
  • Compact Footprint: Measures 12 x 19 x 16-Inches (L x W x H) and weighs 17 pounds, so you can check clearance behind the wall before mounting.

Multiple Speed Options

You can pick this shutter exhaust fan as a 3-speed model or a variable-speed model, depending on how closely you want to control airflow.

  • 3-Speed: This model gives you 3 fixed-step speeds and runs straight from its plug-in cord, so you can step airflow up or down without any extra wiring.
  • Variable Speed: The variable-speed model lets you set airflow anywhere in its range up to 1,400 CFM instead of picking between fixed steps, so you can match exhaust closely to changing heat or fume levels.

Note: For variable-speed operation, an 8-amp variable-speed controller is required and must be installed by a professional electrician. Without it, the variable-speed fan runs continuously on high.

Sylvane's Expert Take

If you're replacing a worn shutter fan in a garage or attic under 350 square feet, this Hessaire fan goes into the existing opening and plugs right in. Go with the 3-speed model if you want it running the day you hang it. Choose variable speed only if you plan to have an electrician wire in the controller. With either model, the IP55 sealed motor and thermal cutoff keep upkeep low on a fan you can leave running for long hours.
