We aren't talking about a tiny little coating of carbon here. We are talking about pounds of it. I was impressed on how well this carbon filter works. All the smells are gone in just a matter of minutes. Cooking smells, microwave popcorn smell, almost anything will be gone for good. I'm trying to find one complaint about this filter but I don't have any. I'm a non-smoker and my household is kept clean, that means that I can't tell you how well will perform when this type of material reaches the filter. All I know is that I can't burn incense and/or a candle anymore because the filter will kill it in just a matter of seconds. Highly recommended.
