As air circulates through your ductwork, it passes through a 3-inch media filter first, so you get filtered air throughout your home, including bedrooms and basements.

This air cleaner is designed for professional installation alongside your HVAC equipment. A built-in angled cabinet extension simplifies fitting it to your return, which can mean less custom sheet-metal work for your installer. Once it is in place, your ongoing job comes down to a single filter change on a schedule you can plan for.

Left vs. Right Return Drop: Choosing Your Configuration

You can choose a left return drop or a right return drop configuration, depending on which side of your equipment the return comes in.

  • Left Return Drop: The AprilAire U161 connects to a return duct on the left side. At 17.813 x 15.688 x 30.118 inches (H x W x D), its lower, longer cabinet fits well where vertical space above the return is limited.
  • Right Return Drop: The AprilAire U171 connects to a return duct on the right side. At 22.125 x 15.688 x 27.375 inches (H x W x D), its taller, shallower cabinet suits installations where front-to-back clearance is tight.
