Info & Guides

Description

Tight headroom makes it hard to give plants strong light without heat and clutter crowding the canopy. The HLG Tomahawk 720 Full Spectrum LED Grow Light handles that with a flat, 5-bar fixture that hangs close to your plants and still runs through full vegetative and flowering cycles. That makes it a good match for multi-tier vertical farming racks and grow tents where every inch between the light and the canopy counts.

The Tomahawk family uses the same fixture, the same spectrum, and the same installation hardware across both versions. The only difference is how you dim it, so you can choose based on how you want to manage your grow.

Key Features and Benefits of the HLG Tomahawk 720 Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

  • Photon Efficacy: A 2.87 µmol/joule system efficacy from 720 watts means more of the power you draw becomes usable light for your plants.
  • Slim Profile: At 40 x 40.75 x 2.5-Inches (L x W x H), the fixture fits between rack shelves and under low tent ceilings where bulkier lights won't.
  • Light Bar Array: The 5 bars of white and deep red LEDs spread light across a 5 x 5-foot flowering footprint to support plant growth and yields.
  • Integrated Reflectors: Reflectors built into the housing push more photons toward your plants and improve airflow around the canopy.
  • Manageable Weight: At 20 pounds, the fixture stays easy to hang from tent frames or vertical rack shelving.
  • Included Hanging Hardware: Hanging hardware and rope ratchets come with the light, so you can set its height quickly and raise it as plants grow.
  • Dual Voltage: Runs on 110-120 or 220-240 volts with a 3.2-amp maximum draw, which helps you plan circuits when you run several fixtures.
  • Cord and Plug: An 8-foot power cord with a 5-15P plug reaches a standard household outlet without extra wiring.
  • Safety Certifications: cETLus and UL certifications confirm the fixture has been tested to recognized electrical safety standards.

Choose Your Dimming Control

Both Tomahawk 720 versions share the same light output and footprint, and they differ only in how you adjust intensity.

  • GrowFlux Control: The GrowFlux Control version gives you wireless dimming through the GrowFlux app, where you can link up to 1,000 sensors and fixtures and set schedules and light intensity.
  • RJ/Manual Control: The RJ/Manual Control version combines an onboard manual knob for direct intensity changes with an RJ 0-10V jack for connecting an external controller.

Note: To dim the RJ/Manual Control version through its RJ jack, you need a third-party 0-10V controller.

Sylvane's Expert Take

If you're running stacked racks or a tent where headroom is limited, the Tomahawk 720 belongs on your list. Its 2.5-inch height is the detail that matters most here, because it lets you keep a flowering-strength light close to the canopy without taking space away from the next tier.

Pick your control version before anything else. The GrowFlux model makes sense if you're scheduling multiple fixtures across a larger room, and the manual knob suits a single tent you check by hand. Put that choice together with 2.87 µmol/joule efficacy and you get a light that keeps working well as your grow expands.
