How It Works
The Honeywell HE240D Humidifier is a whole house humidifier that works with your forced-furnace to distribute comfortable humidity throughout your entire home. It installs easily onto the warm air supply or return air duct of your furnace and hooks to a drain line with simple DIY installation. To operate, warm air from your furnace blows through a water-soaked evaporator pad and wicks up moisture, creating a moisture-rich vapor. Warm humidified air is then propelled out through your air ducts to circulate throughout all the rooms of your home. The HE240D includes the easy-to-use H8908 digital humidistat that monitors your home's relative humidity and activates the humidifier should it fall below your set humidity level.

The Honeywell HE240D Whole House Bypass Humidifier is designed to humidify homes as large as 3,000 square feet, putting out roughly 16 gallons of moisture per day. Its design helps keep the unit clean of microorganisms by routinely rinsing and draining itself instead of drawing stagnant water from a reservoir. Plus, the evaporator pad helps filter out minerals from hard water and other impurities for cleaner moisture. In reviewing other complaints on other boards, Honeywell has knowningly sold this product in which the solenoid fails after a few months (a couple of years). When I called Honeywell, the customer service rep let it slip that she knew of the problem and Honeywell has no replacement part available and no idea if and when a replacement part will be available. Totally worthless product, save your money and buy another brand.

Very easy to install. I retrofitted from an older fan powered humidifier in the outlet plenum. No more cleaning out replacing the moisture media and mold in the well. The entire install took about 3 1/2 hours including removing the old and patching the duct.

HE240 was received on a timely basis with all parts and instructions in perfect condition. My installation was basic so the instructions were appropriate and easy to follow. I did, however, install the humidistat in the living area next to the furnace thermostat so that I did not have to go to the basement for adjustments. I also did not use the saddle clamp for the water connection, instead I found a ""shark bite"" tee that is made specifically for humidifier and ice maker installations -- it works on plastic, PVC, and copper. The humidifier was installed toward the end of the heating season so I don't have a lot of experience, but for the time in use it did maintain the set humidity in my 1450 sq. ft. ranch style home.

A couple minor(?) things: tools needed didn't say ""3/4 hole saw"" or ""Torx driver"". Alternative instructions for systems with humidity control in the furnace may have been helpful. (Perhaps the humidistat and 24v power supply could be separate?) Overall, I expect the HE240 humidifier to meet my needs. I found the best price at Sylvane, and it was delivered promptly.
