This is great at reducing the sound, I don't have a tool to measure noise reduction, but it appeared to almost cut it in half. It doesn't seem to impact the performance at all either, but I've only had the unit for a day. The only complaint I have is that the pieces overlap with the rivets/other panel on the dehumidifier (see photos) This makes it not perfectly airtight, and also makes it feel like it doesn't belong. I'm tempted to get some tape or something to fill the gaps, but I don't think it's leaking a terrible amount of air through them either. Overall it was definitely needed as the unit is staying in our pool room itself, it brought the noise level of the unit down to an acceptable amount. Without this kit it would have been way too loud.
