Description
Description
When you bring outdoor air into a commercial building, you usually pay to heat or cool it. The S&P TRCeN500RT-230 Rooftop Commercial Energy Recovery Ventilator lowers that cost by sending stale exhaust air and fresh supply air through a static plate core, where heat and humidity pass between the two streams. You get the ventilation your space needs with less strain on your HVAC system.
Because it mounts on the roof, the ventilator stays out of your occupied floors and ceiling space. The weather-resistant cabinet comes with hoods already attached for the exhaust and supply airstreams, and lifting lugs make it easier to hoist into place. Listed overall dimensions are 60 x 32 x 82.25-Inches (L x W x H), so check your curb or platform layout before installation.
Key Features and Benefits of the S&P TRCeN500RT-230 Rooftop Commercial Energy Recovery Ventilator
- AHRI 1060 Core: The AHRI 1060-certified static plate core moves heat and humidity between airstreams, so you keep energy that would otherwise leave with the exhaust.
- Variable EC Airflow: Dual 170-watt direct-drive EC motors run anywhere from 166 to 431 CFM, so you can match ventilation to occupancy without wasting fan energy.
- BMS Integration: The included 24VAC transformer and relay package connects the electronic controls to your building management system for centralized operation.
- MERV 8 Filtration: A pair of MERV 8 filters, each 14 x 20 x 2-Inches (L x W x H), cleans incoming air before it reaches your occupied space.
- Galvanized Steel Cabinet: The 20-gauge galvanized steel cabinet with high-density insulation stands up to rooftop weather and cuts down on heat loss and fan noise.
- Compact Footprint: The insulated case measures 73.75 x 34.625 x 58.25-Inches (L x W x H) and weighs 218 pounds, so it fits rooftops where space is tight.
- Hardwired 208-230V Power: A 2.32-amp maximum draw helps your electrician size the circuit, and the built-in non-fused disconnect simplifies servicing.
- 10-Inch Side Ports: Side-located duct connections keep your rooftop duct runs simple, while hinged doors give you quick access to the filters and core.
- Thermal Cutoff Protection: Built-in thermal cutoff protection shuts down the motors if they overheat, which protects them from damage.
- cETLus Listed: The ventilator carries cETLus listing for electrical safety in the US and Canada, which helps your project pass inspection.
- BABA Compliant: The ventilator meets 2009 domestic-content requirements and BABA rules under the IIJA (2022), which matters if your project uses federal infrastructure funding.
Horizontal vs. Vertical: Choose Your Airflow Configuration
You can order the TRCeN500RT-230 in a horizontal or vertical airflow configuration, depending on how your ductwork meets the roof.
- Horizontal Model TRCeN500RTH: This variant moves supply and exhaust air horizontally, which suits installations where your ducts run sideways across the roof deck before entering the building.
- Vertical Model TRCeN500RTV: This variant moves airflow vertically, which suits installations where your ducts drop straight down through the roof into the space below.
Sylvane's Expert Take
If you manage a small commercial building that needs code-level outdoor air without a big jump in HVAC load, this ERV is a good fit, especially on a crowded roof. The parts that matter most are the certified core and the EC motors: you recover heat and humidity while setting airflow anywhere from 166 to 431 CFM. Both configurations share the same core, motors, and controls, so choose based on your duct route alone. With BMS-ready controls included, it fits into an existing building with very little rework.
