These Stadler Form filters stay absorbable until they are obviously ready to be replaced. I've used filters in other humidifier brands that stop absorbing water. One thing I do with these (not sure it's necessary) is rotate them and/or flip them as one section starts to get brown. They are expensive but there's not much you can do about that except to buy them in bulk.
