Like the Austin Air HealthMate Series, the Austin Air HealthMate Plus HEPA Air Purifiers give you reliable protection against a variety of airborne contaminants, from common household allergens to smoke and chemical odors.
The HealthMate Plus, however, features a more absorbent activated carbon filter bed to combat heavier chemical odors, including formaldehyde. Classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a "probable human carcinogen"—formaldehyde exposure causes irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat and may aggravate existing respiratory conditions.

Multi-Stage Air Filtration
HealthMate Plus air purifiers uses Austin Air's signature 360-degree progressive filtering system to remove the most symptom-aggravating allergens, odors, and chemicals from your home. With steady use, you may see a reduction in your allergy, asthma, and MCS symptoms or even eliminate them all together.
Every minute, the system pulls in room air from all sides of the air cleaner. Air passes through a 4-stage HEPA/carbon combination filter and is blown back out into your room using the Clean Air Pocket vent. This extensive filtration system cleans your air faster and more efficiently than conventional air purifiers, which means quicker relief from your symptoms.
The HealthMate Plus Air Cleaner 4-stage combination filter includes:
- PERMAFILT Pre-Filter - During stage 1, air passes through a cotton PERMAFILT pre-filter, which captures particles easily seen by the naked eye, such as large dust and pet dander particles.
- Medium Particle Filter - Next, a medium particle filter traps small- to medium-size allergens, such as mold, pollen, and dust mites.
- Carbon Blend Filter – Next, air moves through a 15-pound activated carbon filter infused with natural zeolite and potassium iodide where heavy odors, chemicals, gases, fumes, and VOCs are absorbed and locked away.
- Medical-Grade HEPA Filter - Lastly, air glides through 60 square feet of true medical-grade HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) material where it is scrubbed free of harmful bacteria and viruses as well as smaller pollen, mold, pet dander, dust, and ragweed particles.
Overall, this long-lasting combination filter eliminates 99.97% of airborne pollutants that are 0.3 microns and larger, 95% of particles that measure 0.1 micron and smaller, and more than 3,000 types of toxic gases and odors. You'll rest easy knowing that you and your family are breathing the cleanest air possible.

Sturdy, Efficient Construction
Made in the USA, these air purifiers are constructed with sturdy, long-lasting components that boost efficiency and energy savings. These include an energy-efficient Permanent-Split Capacitor (PSC) motor, a powerful centrifugal fan, and an all-steel outer body.
The long-life PSC motor is rated for continuous use at high RPM and is mounted on shock absorbers to minimize noise. When running, the HealthMate Plus motor draws less current and reduces your operating costs by 50% when compared to other air purifiers.

I had been thinking about buying this air purifier for ages before finally making the commitment, but I am so glad that I did. I have MCAS and am extremely sensitive to odors, fragrances and mold. Even someone's laundry detergent can trigger me. I thought I had decent air purifiers before, but this machine is next level. It has done a great job of tackling lingering smells after having people in the house. It has also tackled food odors with ease. I am most impressed by just how fresh our air smells now. The machine requires very little maintenance and the company offers a discount on replacement filters if you have to replace the filter before the marketed 5 year time span. They recognize that everyone's environment is different, so you may need to replace it sooner than the 5 years advertised, but if you do, they will discount it based on how long you have owned the machine. I was really impressed by that. Only other maintenance is to lightly vacuum the outside/dust the exterior as needed. So much easier than other air purifiers. What sealed the deal for me was seeing a comparison of units where it showed the cost of the air purifier over 5 years. This one, while being pricey up front, ends up being cheaper in the long run which I appreciate!!! I am already thinking about buying the junior version for my bedroom. One thing to consider is its size. It feels comparable to an end table in size. It is also heavy so you may need help getting it out of the box…

I love the quality of Austin air purifiers, I believe they are the best. After saving and making such a big purchase I was disappointed in the noise that the machine makes on high. We use it in our oversized living space and while I was ready to return the unit I don't think I'd be happy with another brand. In hindsight I should have gotten 2 smaller units so I don't have to run them on high. Love that the filters last 5 years so I don't need to worry about them until then. #sweepstakes

This is my 5th Austin Air machine, but this is the first time I've had to replace one. My first one, a Healthmate Plus Junior, has worked almost every day for 20 years. It still cleans the air, but it's bearings started squeaking so it is no longer good for the bedroom. My Healthmate Plus Air cleaners are essential for me to live a normal life with MCS. In my classroom, the Healthmate Plus takes care of all the fragrances my students wear and the cleaning chemicals used by the custodians. It even helped me survive two years in a classroom with brand new carpet (along with my activated carbon mask). A few years ago when it was taking my Healthmate Plus home at the end of the semester, the cord got caught in the elevator door. It bounced around on the ceiling of the elevator door a while before the plug tore off is the cord and the air cleaner dropped to the floor. I figured it wouldn't work again, but after we replaced the cord with one from Home Depot, it has worked as well as when I first bought it. Austin makes great QUALITY air cleaners! #sweepstakes
