Energy Star Most-Efficient 2024

With the Santa Fe Compact70, customers can be assured that they are getting one of the most energy-efficient dehumidifiers on the market today. Not only has this model been Energy Star certified, but it has also been awarded Energy Star's 2024 Most Efficient rating, a significant accomplishment that is only awarded to the top 5 percent of products. Energy Star has confirmed that this compact unit will remove 43.7 pints of moisture per day at 65 degrees F and 60 percent relative humidity, with a dehumidifier efficiency integrated energy factor of 4.1 pints removed per kWh of electricity used.

Customized Installation and Operation

Like other Santa Fe dehumidifiers, this crawl space model is easily customizable for your basement or crawl space dehumidifying needs.

Right out of the box, the Compact70 can operate as a standalone unit by plugging it into a 115-volt outlet and routing the included gravity hose to a nearby drain. However, this unit can support pumped drainage and ducted applications with a few optional accessories.

  • Hang Kit: Add the optional Hang Kit to suspend it between floor joists and out of the way.
  • Condensate Pump: An external condensate pump for the Compact70 is available as an accessory for an alternative to gravity drainage. 
  • Ducting Kit: A Ducting Kit and ducting accessories are also available. If the standalone operation is impossible or impractical, you might prefer to duct your dehumidifier.
  • Filter Replacements: You can find replacement MERV 13 filters here. While less effective and efficient, you can also use this MERV 11 filter replacement.

It is also available as the Santa Fe Compact70 Complete Crawl Space Package, which includes the hang fit, a remote monitor, and extra replacement filters.

    Solved a Humidity Problem That a Consumer Unit Could Not

    I installed the Santa Fe Compact70 in the basement after determining that the basement and crawl space effectively share the same air environment. Previously, a consumer-grade portable dehumidifier (over 10 years old) could no longer keep up. The crawl space is approximately 1,000 square feet with a polyethylene vapor barrier, insulated foundation walls, and sealed vents, and moisture is drained directly to a sump pit.

    My initial goal was simply to keep the overall environment below 60% RH. Before installation, both the basement and crawl space were running in the mid-60% RH range despite the old unit operating almost continuously.

    The Compact70 reached the target humidity remarkably quickly. Within about two days, the system stabilized around 56% RH, and it has remained there despite hot, humid weather and frequent rainfall. An unexpected benefit was how effectively the unit controlled humidity across both spaces without needing a separate crawl space installation. Drying the shared air environment reduced moisture levels throughout the basement and crawl space.

    I attached a plot of the measured humidity over the first week following installation because I wanted to document the actual performance rather than rely on impressions. The installation photo shows the unit operating in the basement with the recommended drain trap configuration.

    Santa Fe compact 70 dehumidifier

    This is the second Santa Fe compact dehumidifier we have owned. The first one was the Compact 2 and it just finally died after 10 years. It worked great for those 10 years. As a contractor, I have used the number of dehumidifiers and this one by far was superior to everything else I've used or seen. I have clients who have bought cheaper ones. I had problems almost immediately with them. The one that I just purchased to replace my old one is working beautifully at this time and I expect it to work as well for the next 10 years. Even though the Santa Fe is somewhat on the expensive side if you amortized it over a 10 year. It's a pretty inexpensive product that does a fantastic job.
