While PTAC air conditioning units are popular in the hospitality industry, they're also used in sun rooms, offices, and assisted living facilities. PTACs are commonly placed through an external wall, right above the floor, and often under a window.
A wall sleeve and external grille must be purchased separately if you're using a PTAC for new construction. If you're simply replacing an old or outdated unit, you may be able to use your existing sleeve and grille depending upon their size and condition.
The two most important considerations when buying a packaged terminal air conditioner are the cooling size (measured in BTUs) and plug type and electrical requirements. Confirm the cooling capacity is large enough to adequately cool your space, but don't buy a unit that's too large. You'll waste energy, and your AC won't properly remove moisture from your space if it's too powerful for your room. Also, make sure your room is wired for the correct plug type, voltage, and amperage used specifically by your PTAC model. To learn more, check out our PTAC Buying Guide.
